Thank you to Jazwares for sending along their Fortnite 6″ Legendary Series Wave 2 Leviathan figure for review.
Availability: September 2019
Each figure is packaged on a window box with a blister card in the back. The window is seen on the front and sides and shows Havoc, his accessories, and around it is artwork including logos, character design from the game, and the back showcases the character with all of series 2 below him.
The design for Leviathan has a Naut Ke Loi from Green Lantern vibe to him, which is mostly due to the fact that he’s a fish with a bowl on his head. This is a design that you don’t see too often in toys, comics, video games or anywhere else, which is unfortunate as an entire toyline could be created just by this look. Aside from the fishbowl, he is sculpted in an underwater diving suit with nicely done proportions and details that work well for the character. The suit is most painted in a light green with a overspray of white deco to portray the color scheme from the game. The gold deco has a metallic finish has a nice shine to it that stands out in the lighter colors. The dark and light grey deco on the legs and boots are also metallic and also give him a nice shine.
The fishbowl head can be removed and is made of a translucent plastic so you can see his head inside. The bowl also has a bandage in an X shape on the right side, and the bottom has a peg that can be attached to the body. The bowl can also swivel around, which is a nice touch. As he’s a small fish, he can do this as there is no neck preventing him from spinning around.
Aside from the removable head, he comes with six accessories and weapons that are inspired from the game. A pickaxe, a heavy assault rifle, a hand cannon, a crystal, a water tank backpack, and a bowl of popcorn. The pickaxe is the most unique accessories and it looks almost like an arm from a NASA style rover robot. This is non-articulated, but does have the appearance to have articulation that is part of the sculpt and design. The heavy assault rifle is nicely done and the trigger finger guard is open and you can squeeze the finger in there to hold it in place. The same goes for the hand cannon. The sculpts for both the rifle and hand cannon is nicely done and has some nice deco.
In addition, the crystal is made of a translucent blue plastic with a slot in the side, and the popcorn bucket has some great sculpting and deco to look realistic, and also has the slot on the side so that the figure can hold it.
The backpack fits on his back and includes a translucent blue piece to indicate there is water inside, and is intended to be worn with the black cable pointing down, but looks just as good pointing up.
The articulation includes a swivel head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, hinged fingers, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles, and hinged toes.
There is some limitations to the range of motion in the shoulders as the hinge joint is tight, as well as the joints for the hips and ankles. It’s not fragile enough to snap, but note there are limitations to the range of motion because of this.
Overall, Leviathan features a great figure sculpt and pays a great likeness to the game. The 6″ Fortnite line continues to offer such great characters with their own unique design and style. Make sure to pick up the second wave of figures that is currently available.
