DC Collectibles Batman: The Animated Series Bane, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc & Mr. Freeze Figures Review

DC Collectibles are offering four new Batman: The Animated Series style figures that will be available at comic shops and some online retailers beginning next month, and this wave includes Bane, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc and Mr. Freeze. These figures are reissued from the Batman: The Animated Series GCPD Rogues Gallery Figure 5-Pack that was offered in August 2017, which is now hard to find. In that box set, they also offered Renee Montoya, the female police offer that appeared in many memorable episodes and like Harvey Bullock, she was also supportive of Batman.

As that box set continues to climb in value on the secondary market, DC Collectibles is offering fans another chance at obtain four of these figures that are also given some new deco, along with interchangeable hands and character specific accessories.

The figures are based from the 1990’s Batman: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992-1995, and the final two years the show was titled The New Batman Adventures, which ran from 1997-1999. DC Collectibles had already released figures from The New Batman Adventures, and now fans have the opportunity to own these versions of the characters.

Thank you to DC Collectibles for providing their Batman: The Animated Series Bane, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc and Mr. Freeze Figures for review.

Availability: December 2019

Each figure is packaged on the standard blister card and protected in a plastic bubble and tray, which stores the figure and all of his accessories. There are some changes that has occurred inside the package, including the removable of the figure stands, fewer hand sculpts for some of the figures, and the included brochure no longer mentions which episode the figure is based on. Bane is #46, Killer Croc is #47, Mr. Freeze is #48 and Poison Ivy is #49 in the line.

Bane is given a big bulky sculpt, and he is sculpted and painted in his dark grey sleeveless shirt, blue pants, and dark grey boots with white shoe laces. The style of this figure isn’t as detailed as the previous offering from The New Batman Adventures, but the likeness is spot on. The figure is masked in his dark grey, and white mask with red eyes, and his nose and mouth are through the mask. Bane is best known for his venom that gives him strength, and this is inserted into his body through the tube on his back, which is connected to the back of mask and the device on his left wrist. Bane also has a white belt around his waist, with a circular belt buckle, and sculpted lines as part of the design. Included with Bane are three sets of interchangeable hands and a dumbbell.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, swivel calves, and hinged ankles.

Poison Ivy is given a lean figure sculpt and looks more human compared to her appearance in The New Batman Adventures. Her beige skin tone is seen on her upper chest, arms and face, and she is sculpted and painted in her dark and light green costume that is designed to look like a plant. On her right wrist is a small crossbow to shoot poison darts, which is painted in light grey and is non-removable. Her head sculpt is nicely done, and she has green eyes, red lipstick, and brown hair. Included with Poison Ivy are 10 sets of interchangeable hands, and flower pot with roses.

Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel forearms, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, swivel calves, and hinged ankles.

Killer Croc is menacing look, but keeping true to his animated appearance. The figure is mostly sculpted and painted in his light grey skin tone, with lumps on his upper back, shoulders, forearms and head, his spine scupted, and sharp fingernails and toes. He is also given light blue jeans, and a light blue belt. His head sculpt looks great, and he has these cold looking eyes, that are painted in yellow and black, with yellow sharp teeth. His jaw is made of a soft plastic, but is not meant to be articulated. Included with Killer Croc are three sets of interchangeable hands.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ab crunch, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, and swivel ankles.

Mr. Freeze is sculpted in his suit to keep his body at the sub-zero temperatures he requires to survive. The suit is painted in light grey on the chest, black on the arms and legs, and blue around the neck, shoulders, forearms, wrists, hips, and calves. The gloves and boots are painted in a light purple, and the head sculpt is covered with a removable dome. The blue parts on the forearms and wrists are made of a soft rubbery pieces that have a smooth texture. His head sculpt is nicely done with a light grey skin tone, black goggles with red lenses, black eye laches and a black mouth. Included with Mr. Freeze are 10 sets of interchangeable hands, and a ice blaster.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head (that can more with the dome removed), ball jointed shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel-hinged hips, hinged knees, and hinged ankles.

Overall, Bane, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc and Mr. Freeze are great figures with superior likenesses from the Batman: The Animated Series. It’s great to see that DC Collectibles offered these figures again for anyone that missed out the first-time around. Just keep in mind these were advertised as some paint differences from the GCPD 5-pack, and if you have that, hopefully you kept it in package like we did. These single packs are great for opening and enjoying, and you should definitely pick these up when they become available next month. Make sure to order these from your local comic shop, or support us and our valued sponsors by clicking off one of the stores listed below and purchasing these and other collectibles from them.
