Each figure is packaged in the standard blister card with artwork and images of the figure on the left side, back and a brief bio. Each figure is also individually numbered, with Green Lantern Hal Jordan #19, Yellow Lantern Sinestro #20, Knightfall Batman #21, and Knightfall Catwoman #22.
Each figure stands between 6 3/4″ and 7″ tall and based on their appearance as seen in DC Comics – DC Rebirth, which has been the primary designs that the DC Essentials line has been using. The figures also have a more muscular sculpt that that is also bigger and bulkier and resembles some of the older figures offered but with more articulation. The muscular details are nicely sculpted and all of the definition brings out a great likeness for each character.
Batman is based on the Batman: Knightfall storyline of the early 1990’s, and is painted in his grey suit, with a blue cape, blue cowl, blue shorts, blue gloves and boots. His logo is is a label that is mounted on his chest and is yellow with a black bat. He also has his utility belt around his waist that is painted in yellow, and has sculpted details such as a belt buckle. His head sculpt is mostly masked with the cowl, with his mouth, chin, and part of the cheeks showing, and white eyes. The cowl includes the pointed ears, and the cape is placed over the shoulders as seen in the comics. His gloves have the spikes on the bottom and some sculpted lines on the sides.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ab crunch, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, hinged and rocker ankles.
Catwoman is also based on her appearance in Batman: Knightfall, and is painted in her purple and black costume. The mask, neck, torso, shoulders and upper legs are purple, and the arms, legs and shoes are black. Her finger nails are sharp just like a cat’s claw, and this is highlighted by giving her metallic silver deco on the nails. Her mask includes painted cat ears, and there is long black hair coming out the back. Her facial details are nicely done, with purple lipstick, green eyes, and black eye brows really bring out a nice likeness to her.
Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel calves, hinged and rocker ankles.
Green Lantern Hal Jordan and painted in his classic Green Lantern outfit, with his green and black costume, white gloves, and the ring sculpted on his left hand. The logo is nicely done and includes the lantern, with a white back ground behind it and black lines giving it some definition. The green part of the arm has a shiny finish over it that is even seen on the mask, and this a nice touch to help him stand out. The facial details are nicely done, and he has short brown hair that is combed backwards.
By now, you should be aware of the differences of the sculpt from DC Icons to DC Essentials, and in this case a picture says a thousand words. As you can see, these are two very different styles and DC Essentials fits in better as far as scale wise to other companies, and this particular bulkier style is in more of a demand among fans and collectors alike.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ab crunch, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, hinged and rocker ankles.
Sinestro is painted in his Sinestro Corps – Yellow Lantern outfit, with his yellow and black outfit that includes a shiny finish over the yellow parts, and the Sinestro Corps logo on his chest that is in white and black. On his left shoulder he also has a Sinestro Corps logo on the yellow stripe on his bicep, which is a scaled down version from the one on his chest. His skin tone is painted purple, and his head sculpt includes nicely done facial details, such as white teeth, a black mustache, yellow eyes, and black hair. The outfit also has a yellow trim on top of the collar around his neck.
Sinestro in this outfit is also a milestone for DC Collectibles, as they had previously planned this character in the DC Icons line, but was cancelled back in 2017. As you can see from the image below, he would have come with accessories, such as a sword and shield constructs, and two additional sets of interchangeable hands. The DC Essentials figure is an upgrade to the DC Icons version, and you can see the differences above with Han Jordan. The DC Essentials figure also has some changes in the costume as compared to the DC Icons version, such as the V-shape of the yellow going all the way down past the belly button, and the strips around his waist. In addition, aside from the bulkiness of this new figure, the hand sculpts are almost identical in position between the two, with the left hand closed, and the right hand being open.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ab crunch, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, swivel thighs, hinged and rocker ankles.
The absence of accessories in the past two waves of DC Essentials figures haven’t gone unnoticed, and we’re hoping that DC Collectibles can offer something such as a weapons and accessories pack as they did with DC Icons. We’re hoping that if a set is made it would include constructs for Hal Jordan and Sinestro, a whip for Catwoman, Wonder Woman’s sword and shield, etc.
Overall, Batman, Catwoman, Green Lantern Hal Jordan and Sinestro are excellent figures that fans will love. The figure sculpts are beyond impressive as are the paint applications and overall designs and likeness. DC Collectibles continues to offer very impressive looking figures in this assortment and we hope to see it continue for years to come.
