Playmates Toys is offering some new Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figures, such as Hypno-Potamus and Wrestling Leo that are available in time for the holiday season. The next wave should be coming up shortly, which includes Bull Hop and Wrestling Mikey.
Even though Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season 3 has been cancelled, one memorable aspect about the show is some of the new characters that have been introduced in the series with great names that pay a homage to the original series with the creativity given to them. This includes Hypno-Potamus, Bull Hop, Baron Draxum, Oozesquitos, Meat Sweats, Albearto, S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N., Piebald, and others.
Mezmer-Ron is a successful stage magician and hypnotist who mutated into a hippopotamus after he was stung by an Oozesquito that merged him with his pet hippopotamus Doug. Driven by envy, Hypno-Potamus strives to outachieve any magician with an even greater “trick” than they can produce, and find a way to bring Doug back to life, leading to his clashes with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. In “Warren & Hypno, Sitting in a Tree,” Hypno-Potatmus has become a roommate of Warren Stone.
As to what the future holds for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand such as a future animated series and toy line, we’re hoping to learn some news at this years New York ToyFair, which takes place in February 2020. We’re hoping that Nickelodeon will offer a new series that will be more to the liking of fans that grew up watching the ’87 Classic series, and bring in new fans at the same time.
Thank you to Playmates Toys for providing their Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hypno-Potamus Figure for review.
Availability: December 2019
Hypno-Potatmus is packaged on the standard blister card, with artwork from the series on the show, an image of Hypno-Potatmus on the back, a bio and images of the other figures that are available.
Hypno-Potamus is probably going to one of the more memorable new characters that was introduced in this series given his great character name and being the first hippopotamus mutant introduced in the franchise. The character also has some great magical powers that you see a magician use.
The figure is sculpted in a purple jacket with some nicely done sculpted details, a red tie, white dress shirt, off-white gloves, blue pants, red belt, and black shoes. The sculpt is also on the wide and thin side as seen with Albearto, and even though hippo’s are usually heavy, his stomach is sucked in and he looked to be on the slim side. His legs are very short and you have to position the hips just right to get him to stand, as the left foot is sculpted with a curve.
His head sculpt is nicely done with a pink magicians hat with a red and black piece in the front, and the likeness of the head is the only characteristic of a hippopotamus. His includes a dark grey skin tone, snout with nostrils, a black mustache, a gold earring on the left ear, a goatee, and a nicely sculpted mouth with big teeth in the front, and smaller teeth on the sides. The center of the mouth is painted in dark grey, which implies he might not have teeth there. The top of the head is also sculpted on the thin side, with his eyes and eye brows, and ears.
His articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel-hinged hips.
Included with Hypno-Potamus is his razor sharp rings.
Overall, Hypno-Potatmus is a great figure and definitely worthy to add to any Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collection. The attention to detail on the sculpt and likeness came out great and we are especially fond how well he fits in with the franchise. Make sure to grab him now while you can, and even if Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles isn’t your cup of tea, some of the figures will definitely be more up your ally.
