Playmates Toys are wrapping up their Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figure line with one of the final figures available right now, Wrestling Mikey, aka “One love.” At New York ToyFair, Playmates Toys had nothing new to show for Turtles as the series is coming to an end, but the good news is that there will be a Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated movie airing on Netflix. Nickelodeon is also working on a new series, and what we had heard is that it’s a live-action show, which would be the second show of its kind as Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation hit the air waves in 1997. Nickelodeon will be making an official announcement on what exactly their plan is at some point, but right now we can only assume it’s a brand new show that’s not affiliated with that has come before.
Availability: March 2020
Wrestling Mickey is packaged on the standard blister card, with artwork from the series on the show, an image of them on the back, a bio and images of the other figures that are available.
Mikey is based on the episode “Cell in a Shell,” and the figure comes in his wrestling attire as seen on the show. He includes a long white sleeveless coat that has some nicely done wrinkles on the back and torn off sleeves, a yellow shirt with a blue lightning bolt, red pants, orange socks that are on his ankles and the top of his feet, with the toes, heel and bottom of his feet sticking out. His wrists have a bracelet on the right side, and a orange band on the other, and he has a necklace placed around his neck. His head sculpt has one of the most unique designs we’ve seen since Playmates Toys originally offered the Trolls/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover figures back in the vintage line, and this figure has white rooted hair that sticks straight up, and an orange bandana around his eyes and face.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel wrists, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel ankles.
Wrestling Mikey includes two Nano Clix figures that can connect together.
Overall, Playmates Toys did a great job on Wrestling Mikey and he makes a great addition to the line. The show might not be to your liking, but the figures are always a lot of fun. As you may already know, we are very passionate over this brand and while this show and toyline are coming to an end, we look forward to what’s next and hope it’ll live up to fans standards. Look for Wrestling Mikey at the stores listed below (don’t go out and search for these right now due to the virus and dangers of infecting yourself and others, and we strongly recommend shopping online).
