In recent years Playmobil have put themselves on the map for adult collectors as they’ve expanded this iconic classic style of toys with some of the most popular franchises, such as Ghostbusters, The Real Ghostbusters, Scooby Doo, How to Train Your Dragon, Back to the Future, as well as their many imaginative offerings.

This year, marks the 35th anniversary of Back to the Future since it first hit theaters in 1985, and saw two sequels in 1989 and 1990. The film is one of the best science fiction films of all time, and was also the highest grossing film in 1985 with bringing in over $381 million. With the success of Back to the Future, it also animated series, a theme park ride, several video games, a series of comic books, and a stage musical.

Thank you to Playmobil for providing their Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine & Marty McFly & Dr. Emmett Brown figure 2-pack for review.

The 70317 Back to the Future DeLorean Time Machine set is packaged in a themed box with nicely done artwork surrounding the DeLorean, Marty and Doc, with a look at the vehicle with open doors, Marty behind the wheel, Doc, Einstein and some of the accessories that are included in the set. The back of the box has a much more detailed look of the Time Machine with many of its details and features.

The 70459 Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown figure 2-pack is a window box with artwork inspired from the film, and this set is based the 1955 edition of Marty and Doc. The back of the box has an action shot of Marty and Doc, with nicely done artwork in the back.

Most fans reading this are probably already sold on both of these sets as they will make great additions to your collection and are just in time for the 35th Anniversary of the film. This figure 2-pack are based on the 1955 editions of Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown. Marty is in a grey suit with black trim and buttons, black pants, a white dress shirt and a brown tie with a gold button and clip. Doc is in a beige jacket with black buttons, a white shirt with red and black stripes, a black collar, brown pants, black shoes, and removable brown gloves. Marty includes a black and red garter that is removable, and Doc includes a newspaper with an article on the front, and the words “I Love You” and a phone number on the back.

The 1985 editions of Marty McFly, Dr. Emmett Brown and Einstein are offered along with the DeLorean. Marty is in a red vest, with yellow buttons, a white and black stripes shirt, a brown collar, light blue jeans with black and gold trim, white sneakers, a blue shirt with white and black spotted cuffs. Einstein is nicely done with a hinged neck and tail.

The DeLorean looks incredible, has some of the best details and features that Playmobil has to offer, and this vehicle is also one of the most authentic designs ever made that was meant to seat action figures. The exterior details mostly have the light-up features that are shown on the sides and front bumper where the blue plastic pieces are, which light-up when pressing the button on the bottom. At first, the lights blimp, then become lit up all at once before automatically turning off. The engine is located in the back, and has some very nice details that look authentic enough. The front of the DeLorean also has nicely done sculpted head lights that don’t light-up, and what is also great here is that it has rubber tires. The tires can also rotate downward as seen in the film, so you can recreate that hovering scene as seen in the movie.

The DeLorean features two opening doors and can seat Marty and Doc, with interior details such as the Time Machine controls, a rotating steering wheel, back panels that light-up, and its bright enough to really light up in the dark.

Back to the Future is one of the most iconic films of all time and Playmobil has managed to offer another great licensed set with the DeLorean, and two versions each of Marty and Doc. I love how much attention to detail that are being offered in these sets and if you own their Ecto-1 offerings from Ghostbusters, you should know how great the DeLorean came out.

Overall, you should definitely be buying this. This is a special set that every fan needs to own, and its so great to actually have this Time Machine with light-up features to add to the collection. Look for these in stores shortly, but be on the same side and pre-order online at the stores listed below (be safe and don’t actually go into stores shopping for this).
