Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Origins line is available now for 2020 at Wal-Mart Stores, and everywhere else starting in 2021, and the first wave of figures includes He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Evil Lyn, Beast Man and Battle Cat, along with the 2-pack of Prince Adam with Sky Sled. We last got to see these figures at New York ToyFair, which took place back in February and we saw a great display of figures, including MOTU Mini’s, Mega Construx and more.
Battle Cat is inspired from the original 1980’s toyline, and Mattel has given each figure a great update with more articulation while keeping to that retro look that we all know and love. Each figure comes with their iconic accessories as well as a mini comic book.
Thank you to Mattel for providing their Masters Of The Universe Origins Battle Cat figure for review.
Availability: July 2020 – Wal-Mart Exclusive for this year, and everywhere else in 2021.
He-Man and Skeletor are packaged on a vintage style window box with beautiful looking artwork on the top and back that features He-Man, Battle Cat, Skeletor and even Castle Grayskull in the background. The back also has a brief description and a look at other figures being offered in the first wave.
Battle Cat is an upgrade from the early 1980’s offerings and this figure is fully articulated, which is something that wasn’t offered back then. Battle Cat includes sculpted fur all over his body, and is painted in a bright green with yellow stripes. Every aspect about this figure is perfect, including the mask and saddle on his head and back.
The mask and saddle are painted in a bright red, and the mask includes yellow eyes. Battle Cat’s head sculpt is quite impressive, with a hinged jaw, sharp fans, and nicely done facial details including the eyes, nose and of course the mouth with that sculpted tongue. The green fur and yellow stripes deco are also on the head, which looks great and they really captured an amazing likeness here.
Battle Cat’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, hinged neck, hinged jaw, hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and a swivel-hinged tail.
Just like the 80’s, and other Battle Cat figures that Mattel has done over the years, He-Man sits perfectly on top and they look great together.
Overall, Battle Cat is excellent figures and a great way to kick off the line this year. The quality, updated articulation and 80’s vibe given to the figures is just above and beyond. Make sure to grab these new Masters of the Universe figures now, and if you can’t find it, don’t worry, it’s coming everywhere in 2021. Mattel stated at Power-Con that product will be plentiful starting in 2021.
