Bandai Tamashii Nations is offering a new Captain America figure in their S.H. Figuarts line, and is inspired from the 2012 film The Avengers, which introduced these iconic Marvel characters to an entire new generation of fans, movie goers, and an entirely new audience that the comics had not. The Battle Of New York Edition of Iron Man joins other Avengers in this new line, including Thor, Iron Man, Loki, and Hulk. Also recently announced was Black Widow and Hawkeye, which are available to pre-order now.
Thank you to Bluefin for providing their S.H. Figuarts The Avengers Iron Man Mark 6 (Battle Of New York Edition) figure for review.
Availability: June 2021
Iron Man is packaged in the standard S.H. Figuarts window box, with artwork inspired from the film on the front, as well as images of the figure on the sides and back. Iron Man is in a plastic tray with all of his accessories for safe keeping, including an instruction sheet behind the cardboard insert behind it.
Iron Man Mark 6 uses the same sculpt that we’ve previously seen with the Hall of Armor figure set, which continues to be a great and accurate sculpt to the film. The figure is cast in his metallic red, gold and silver armor, and is made of hard plastic with many removable parts and accessories.
His face plates include a standard helmet, that is red and gold, and the other one is battle damaged to show how he looked during the fight against The Chitauri as seen in the film. The battle damage effect is sculpted onto the plate, which can be removed and swapped for the standard one, and is given a metallic deco to show the damaged. The interchangeable chest piece can also be swapped out, and has the same battle damage effect. These pieces can be removed easily with your finger, and create a dynamic look.
Iron Man includes an assortment of five sets of shoulder pieces that are also interchangeable, each with their unique feature to create different poses. The shoulder pieces are placed two on each side, with the shorter pieces placed to the gap closer to his neck, and the larger pieces close to his shoulders. These do tend to fall off easily if you finger hits it, so be weary of that.
He also includes four sets of four pulsar blast effect pieces for his hand sculpt with the peg on the palm, and one set for the bottom of his booth, with plug into the bottom to give him the effect of flying. Each of these are unique effects to recreate the effect of firing lasers, and each can be plugged into the hand sculpt with the peg, and one with the back piece that connects to the hand.
Each of the hand sculpts are also unique, and includes closed fisted, flying, open hand, and open hand with a peg to insert the blast effects. The back of the hand has a gap to plug in one of the pieces for it, and one of them has a hole to plug the thinnest blast effect into it as shown above.
The figure also comes with interchangeable forearms, and calf pieces to create more ways to display him. The different forearms can both work for the hands, as well as the effect pieces, so you can customize your figure to your delight. The forearms can be tricky, and fragile, to swap out, to make sure to use some caution while swapping it.
Overall, Iron Man is a great figure with a great likeness to the 2012 film. The deco, especially all of the interchangeable parts and accessories make this figure something special, especially with next year being the 10th anniversary of the film. Make sure to add this figure, and other 2012 Avengers Assemble figures to your collection now.
