Playmobil 70626 Dino Rise Saichania: Invasion of the Robot Set Review

Playmobil is offering a new line of dinosaur figures called Dino Rise, with includes dinosaurs and human characters, with some of the humans riding some of the larger dinosaurs. This concept is best remembered to fans as DinoRiders in the 1980’s, which was a toyline of this same idea. This new line gives you that same concept, with an assortment of characters, dinosaurs, weapons and accessories that is geared towards kids, but also could be ideal for adult collectors that remembers the old 1980’s line.

Thank you to Playmobil for providing their 70626 Dino Rise Saichania: Invasion of the Robot Set for review.

Availability: June 2021

The 70626 Dino Rise Saichania: Invasion of the Robot Set is packaged in a box with some great artwork that showcases this set in an apocalyptic backdrop, along with details about the set on the front, sides, and on the back is a look at the accessories, along with other sets that are also available.

The Ankylosaurus  is one of the medium size dinosaurs in the Dino Rise sets, and features a nice likeness to the animal. The dinosaur is quite colorful, with neon yellow-green skin, a light blue back with some of the mumps grey on the sides, grey and blue markings on the sides of the legs and neck. His underbelly is also yellow-green, as are his hands and feet, with toe nails painted in a light grey. The eyes include a printed label, and his neck is ball jointed, with a hinged jaw. The rest of the articulation includes hinged knees and tail.

The armor is the best part about the figure, that fits over it and features some great attention to detail, and covers his back, with a separate piece covering his tail. The armor is painted in a dark and light grey, with some nicely done patterns. On the back is a seat with a computer screen, and projectiles that manually fire, and Milow can be placed on the seat and grab the handlebars. This takes the concept of Dino Riders of the 80’s for a new generation of fans, and they did a great job on this design.

The mech suit is amazing, and something that resembles the mech suit from the Alien franchise. The suit has articulated arms and legs, missiles that manually fire. It has articulated claw that allows it to hold onto the Legendary Stones. The left arm has projectiles that manually fire. The mech suit is cast in black and grey, with labels applied to it that gives it the red lines that you see. The cockpit opens and allows the villain character to be placed inside, with a screen and handles for him to hold onto. The arms can also extend, as shown above.

The two human characters includes Milow, and an unnamed villain character in black and red armor.

Milow is given armor including chest armor, shoulder pads, and a helmet. The armor is removable, allowing you to see his clothing that includes a light green shirt with some blue patterns, a blue shirt underneath, white shoes and some blue on them. He also includes interchangeable head pieces, including a helmet and hat.

The villain character is in his black and red outfit, with some grey. The visor can be listed up so you can see his face, and removed. He is given blonde hair, and there is a clip on his belt to hold an accessory. The printed labels are on the clothing, facial details and armor look great, and the figures are done in the standard Playmobil style.

Overall, this is a fun set, and fits in great with the overall theme that they are going for. The dinosaurs, armor and mech suit looks great and the weapons make a nice touch to it. If you remember Dino Riders, you may want to check these out as well, especially if you like building sets.
