NECA Toys is now offering their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Movie based Casey Jones and April O’Neil figures based on the Farmhouse scenes from the film. Casey Jones features the likeness of Actor Elias Koteas and April O’Neil features the likeness of Actress Judith Hoag. In the film, the turtles, April O’Neil and Casey Jones retreat the Farm that is owned by April’s family after their defeat from The Foot.
The Farmhouse scene is one of the most memorable from the film and we’ve seen the farm used in other TMNT entertainment properties, including in the comics and some animated series, such as the 2012 series where they went to the farm to escape the Kraang invasion of New York City. The Farm is also a bit different between its appearances throughout the TMNT Multiverse, such as its owned by either April’s or Casey’s family, and it could be located in rural New York or just outside the state.

Casey Jones and April O’Neil is packaged in a window box with artwork inspired from the film, including logo’s and an images of the turtles coming out of a Sewer on the bottom. The sides inside images of Casey and April, and the back includes additional images and a description.
Casey Jones and April O’Neil are based on their appearances from the Farmhouse scenes from the film, where they, and the turtles retreat after rescuing Raphael and being defeated by The Foot Clan. This is the second version of Casey Jones to include the unmasked head sculpt, and the second version of April O’Neil offered in the movie line.
Casey Jones uses some shared parts, and is given a newly tooled torso with a tank top that is painted in a light grey with a wash over it, reused legs with a dark grey deco and a wash over it, repainted black shoes, newly tooled upper arms that are now bare, reused forearms, and interchangeable hand sculpts that do not have the gloves.
The head sculpt is also repainted and given that same great likeness to Actor Elias Koteas, with nicely done facial details, sculpted black hair with a wash. The masked head sculpt is also a reuse, with a different shade of hair so you can tell the versions/releases apart.
This is also the second version to get the updated elbow articulation, which is an improvement, and visually much more appealing than the 2020 release. I can appreciate what they did in 2020 with the double-hinged joints, and for his sporting good accessories this works extremely well for posing and much better range of motion. However, this line is about quality and making it look at its best, and this new release surely shines where the 2020 release fell short. The new elbow joint works extremely well for him, and while you don’t get as much range of motion out of this line, visually it’s at its best.
Casey Jones is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged hips, ball jointed torso with no range of motion as the shirt prevents that, waist rotation, ball joined hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
April O’Neil is given the outfit that you will remember from the Farmhouse scenes in the film, including a yellow and orange striped shirt, with it tied in the front, a short black skirt, black dress shoes, which are all new for this release. She also gets an improvement knee joint that is new, and looks better visually.
She includes two head sculpts, which are also new, each with a different facial expression, and sculpted hair with a wash.
April O-Neil is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double-hinged elbows, ball jointed hips, ball jointed torso with no range of motion as the shirt prevents that, ball joined hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles. She requires the small black round base to help her stand, as her ankles don’t properly support the weight of the figure.
The set also includes some great accessories, including April’s drawings, 3x pencils used for the drawings, a wrench, hammer, binoculars, sports drink, Turtle Wax, a Katana, and a mask for Casey to hold. Some of these accessories are too small for their hands to hold it, such as the pencils, and wrench. The interchangeable hand sculpts are also different and you will need to the open grips to hold the accessories. There is also differences in the hands for April, such as the gold ring on 2 of the 3 right hands.
Overall, this Casey Jones and April O’Neil set is one of the best offerings and the first-time in this line that these characters are offered together. The attention to details, actor likenesses and accessories are remarkably done, and is more than worthy of adding to your collection.
