Mattel – Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse Wave 4 Mer-Man Figure Review

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Masterverse line continues based on the Masters of the Universe: Revelation animated series on Netflix gets a new wave, including Mer-Man, Barbarian (New Eternia) Skeletor, Viking (New Eternia) He-Man, and a new Teela figure. This wave gives you classic inspired head sculpts based on their 80’s counterparts of He-Man, Skeletor and Teela, while the figures are based on the new series. Mer-Man is entirely based on his new appearance in this series, along with modern updates to his accessories.

In this new series, Mer-Man leads Aquatican underlings and does not always see eye to eye with Skeletor and not directly part of Skeletor’s Evil Mutants as he was back in the 80’s, but does collaborate with him when it suits his interests. In the series, he is featured with armor that you don’t get as part of this figures offerings.

Mer-Man is based on his appearance in the new Revelation series on Netflix, which is a reboot of the franchise and introduces these characters to a new germination of fans. Mer-Man is given mostly a brand new sculpt, with reused shoulders, biceps and thighs, and given a new head, torso, forearms, hands, lower legs and feet. Mattel’s designers went above and beyond this one with sculpted textures on the head, torso arms and head. This was unexpected and you probably won’t notice until you hold him in your head, or look close at it.

The head sculpt is a good likeness and keeps to the source material, including the orange mask over his eyes, with the right eye closed and scarred, while the right eye is open. He also has a sculpted mouth, including teeth and you can see a bit inside the mouth, and nicely sculpted ears that look like fins.

He also has some lines painted on in a lighter shade of green that you see on the chest and back. The clothing is nicely done and includes a green belt with  Mer-Man inspired belt buckle, orange lion cloth with sculpted textures, orange and gold gauntlets on the forearms, and shin guards. The colors on these are bright with crisp paint applications applied.

Mer-Man includes his spear and sword, also with nicely done sculpting and paint applications. The spear can be held in both open grip hands. Also included are two extra sets of interchangeable hands, including closed fisted and swimming webbed hands.

His articulation is the same as He-Man and Skeletor’s, including a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel waist, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse line continues to offer some great looking figures inspired from the series, and Mer-Man is a perfect example of that. You are definitely going to want to jump in on this line, even if you already have the MOTU Classics figures.
