He-Man and Skeletor are packaged on the standard window box packaging for the line, including some great artwork and images, and a description on the back.
Barbarian Skeletor and Viking He-Man are given some shared parts with each other and are based on the concept sketches by Mark Taylor. Barbarian Skeletor comes with a removable fabric cape and armor piece that fits over his head and onto his shoulders, Once removed, he has another piece of armor, and you can swap out his head with a classic Skeletor head and create a second appearance for this figure with a classic look. On the back of the armor is a holster for the Scimitar of Chaos sword that can slide into it for storage. The lion cloth is made of plastic and hangs down to the middle of the knees, and the bottom of it has a sculpted and painted appearance to look like leather. The belt buckle is also sculpted with a unique design of a creature. The legs are shared with the previous Skeletor figure but the shin armor is brand new for this release. The armor is nicely done with curves and a pattern at the center.
The head sculpts look incredible, with the helmeted head sculpt looks like a homage to the Italian Barbute helmets of the Middle Ages. The helmet gives his head full protection everywhere except his face, but has a wide shaped on the eyes for a clear vision. The other head sculpt appears to have a close likeness to his classic design, with paint apps of the yellow and green deco, and bright red eyes. It could also be assumed that this head pays tribute to the to the first mini-comic in 1981, given how it’s designed.
Skeletor includes four sets of hands (2 open grip, karate chop and closed fisted), Havoc Staff and a Scimitar sword. The havoc staff has a new sculpt and design, and is much more detailed especially on the head.
His articulation is the same as He-Man’s, including a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel waist, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.
He-Man also comes with new armor, including the shoulder and chest armor and straps that includes some great sculpted detail, including the insignia on his chest. The belt and lion cloth also include some sculpt ed details and textures, and the belt is painted in the same gold as the shoulder pads. The arms include a standard cuff on the left, and a removable bracer on the right that is also painted in gold and brown, which is also different than the previous He-Man figure offered in this line. The back of the torso armor also has a holster for the power sword.
The head sculpts also look amazingly detailed with a great likeness, and the Viking Helmet head is cast in silver colored plastic and includes a blue jewel in the center of smaller red jewels in the front, along with horns on the sides, and a spike on top. The facial details are nicely done with the blue eyes and great attention to detail. The brown hair also has a brown wash to it, to gives it more depth and dimension. The unhelmeted head you can see the hair better and is sculpted, and the eye color is also different.
He-Man includes includes four sets of hands (2 open grip, karate chop and closed fisted), a battle axe that is smaller than the one that came with Savage He-Man, but is given nicely done details, a dagger that can be placed in the holster on his boot, and the Power Sword. The Power Sword, dagger and axe are all brand new sculpted accessories, each painted and given unique colors.
His articulation is the same as Skeletor’s, including a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel waist, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.
Overall, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Masterverse line continues to offer some great looking figures, and Barbarian and Viking He-Man are a perfect example of that. You are definitely going to want to jump in on this line, even if you already have the MOTU Classics figures.
