Nappa has joined Bandai Namco’s Dragon Stars line, and is based on his appearance in the Vegeta Saga on Dragon Ball Z. Nappa is one of a handful of survivors of the Saiyan race, and is sent by Frieza along with Vegeta and Raditz to conquer Earth. He is also the second figure to be offered into this line from the Vegeta Saga, as Vegeta himself has also been released recently, and hopefully Raditz isn’t too far behind.
A new film is coming out titled Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO, which is in theaters now. At this time the Dragon Stars line hasn’t announced new figures from this film, but other lines from Bandai, including S.H. Figuarts are offering them, so it’s only a matter of time before we get something in this line stateside.
Thank you to Bandai Namco for sending along their Dragon Stars Nappa Figure for review. They also sent along Lord Beerus and SS Vegeto, which are old releases offered earlier on in the line.
Availability: August 2022
Nappa is packaged in a window box, with artwork and images of the character, along with an image of the figure and Vegeta on the back. It should be noted that the packaging and has changed overtime as they have stopped offering build-a-figures and entire waves, as both Beerus and Super Saiyan Vegeto have different packaging on the back with images of additional offerings.
Nappa is depicted as a tall, muscular warrior in the cartoon and this figure pays a great likeness to what you saw on screen, The sculpt is how he should look, and he comes with Saiyan armor that is black and yellow with white trim, which covers most of his body except for this upper legs, biceps and shoulders. His tail is also wrapped around his waist and given a sculpted texture to represent fur. His head sculpt includes a bald head, with some black hair on his eyebrows, and mustache, along with a purple scouter that is non-removable.
The black parts of the armor are smooth with a glossy finish over it, and the yellow parts are given a sculpted grooves as you would recall from the show.
Nappa includes 3 additional hand sculpts, including an open grip set, and a right hand with fingers pointing.
The articulation is standard for the line, and includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, ball jointed wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, and ball hinged ankles. The shoulder pads can also be lifted up to allow the shoulders a full range of articulation, otherwise they would prevent the shoulders from moving much at all.
Overall, Nappa is a great choice for the line given the fact he’s a memorable character with some notable appearances in the franchise, including the time he, and many other villains escaped Hell to fight Vegeta. He’s a much needed offering as Prince Vegeta is already out, and hopefully this means that Raditz is on his way.
