Mattel – Masters of the Universe: Origins 200X He-Man, 200x Skeletor, Mantenna & Pig-Head Figures Review

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe: Origins line continues with some essential additions to this modern day take on the 1980’s legendary toy line that first introduced fans to these characters. This new wave includes 200x versions of He-Man and Skeletor, the Evil Horde’s Mantenna, and Sun-Man’s enemy Pig-Head, and these are listed now at Entertainment Earth for $77.99 for the set, or $18.99 each. He-Man and Skeletor are inspired from their 2002 animated series likeness and are offered in this format, while Mantenna is inspired from his 1980’s vintage action figure. Pig-Head makes his debut as an action figure and fits in with Sun-Man. Each figure has interchangeable parts that can be swapped out with each other, Masters of the WWE Universe, and WWE Superstars, and given updated articulation and an improved sculpt, while keeping all the characters designs and the charm that the brand initially started off with.

Mattel has surprised fans this year with 200x editions of He-Man and Skeletor, inspired from the 2002 animated series. These variations were surprising as they haven’t even finished off the core vintage line, including variants of both characters that were first offered in the 80’s. The 200X style remains to be a fan-favorite, and is ideal for fans of both the original and 2002 shows.

200X He-Man and 200X Skeletor are given some shared parts, each with newly tooled armor, heads, belts with a lion cloth, and metallic painted accessories. He-Man is given metallic silver deco on his accessories, harness and belt, with sculpted patterns on the weapons, and some sculpted textures on the shield. Skeletor is given metallic purple weapons including a sword and staff, with purple armor Wirth some red gems. The heads sculpts are each nicely done and stylized a bit to fit into this line, rather than an accurate likeness to the 200X design.

Their articulation includes a ball jointed head, hinged-swivel shoulders, hinge-swivel elbows, hinged-swivel wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, hinged-swivel knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Mantenna is my personal favorite of the Horde, and and the design has always been appealing to me from his cartoon look to his vintage toy likeness. This figure is inspired from the vintage toy, and they also re-created that eye popping feature that you may recall from the 80’s. This new release is given the updated articulation that’s offered in the Origins line, and he comes with dark blue arms and four legs, red on his chest with the Horde logo, a yellow belt, Horde logo’s on his ankles, and a red insect head with fangs and poppin’ eye balls. Mantenna includes his crossbow, which is cast in grey plastic.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, hinged-swivel shoulders, hinge-swivel elbows, hinged-swivel wrists, swivel waist, 4x ball jointed hips, 4x hinged-swivel knees, 4x swivel boots, 4x hinged and rocker ankles.

Pig-Head is an arch enemy of Sun-Man’s, and a character that some of you might not recognize as he’s never been made into an action figure before. Pig-Head is given bright colors, including yellow-green skin, a blue chest, neck, hands feet and helmet, purple horns, bracelets and cuffs, brown spiked harness, belt, and yellow shorts with a pattern. The head sculpt has three tusks, a pig nose with nicely done details on the face. The weapons are nicely done and the mace is painted in the same shade of blue as the body, while the shield is blue and pink.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, hinged-swivel shoulders, hinge-swivel elbows, hinged-swivel wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, hinged-swivel knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, there’s a lot to love about Masters of the Universe: Origins that’s given modern articulation and pays homage to the vintage line. This wave is a perfect example of what makes this line so great, and fans are surely going to love these. Mantenna is the only figure in this wave that’s updated from his 80’s release, so getting him at least is essential for your collection.
