Mattel – Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse Catra Figure Review

Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Masterverse line gets some new additions in this wave, and a few that fans weren’t expecting. This wave includes Catra, Zodac, He-Man and Skeletor from the new He-Man and the Masters of the Universe animated series on Netflix, which are variants of these characters and the first from this series is brought into this line. Catra is inspired from her 1980’s appearance in Princess of Power, a She-Ra villain and she is a member of the Evil Horde, making her an essential part of the collection. She is also the first-release of the new Masterverse POP line, which will see She-Ra and Hordak also offered in October.

Thank you to Entertainment Earth for sending Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse Catra Figure for review.

Availability: September 2022

Catra is packaged on the standard window box packaging for the line, including some great artwork and images, and a description on the back. The new Princess of Power logo looks great and it’s also the first-time this is featured on a package.

Catra gets a modern release in this line, which pays tribute to her 80’s design while keeping her design that looks to be based off the Filmation series of the 1980’s, which is great as she never made it into the Filmation line (only the core line) in Masters of the Universe Classics from Mattel or Super7, so that’s great to get this version now. She comes in her red dress, with a Horde symbol on her chest, and a Horde belt around her waist, which are a different shade of red. The skirt part is made of a soft plastic, so you can more the hips better for a full range of articulation. She is also given boots, with two shades of red, and a soft goods cape on her back, which is in purple and a nice touch over a plastic option.

Her head sculpt is nice done, and her mask can be lifted up to reveal her forehead, but is not meant to be removed like the Masters of the Universe Classics release. There are gapes on the sides of her to inside the mask into place, and this leaves holes in her head, indicating that the mask is not meant to be removed, but can be.

Catra comes with a silver shield with gem with a cat/panther face on it, a silver scepter with a green jewel, and two sets of interchangeable heads. The hands include two open grip, and open hand.

Her articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Comparing her to the Masters of the Universe Classics release from Mattel, you can see the cast differences and similarities in the design of the character, as they both keep to her 80’s design, with some differences amongst them. The biggest one is the cape, as the Masterverse release has a soft goods, while the MOTU Classics was given a plastic cape, and the overall design of the character remains the same. The mask for the MOTU Classics is also removable, but the Masterverse release is meant to stay on, but you do have the option to remove it if you don’t mind the holes on the sides of her head.

Overall, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Revelation Masterverse line continues to offer some great looking figures inspired from the series, and Catra is a perfect example of that. You are definitely going to want to jump in on this line, even if you already have the MOTU Classics figures. She is expected to ship in October 2022, but some early offerings were sent out if you had pre-ordered.
