Skeletor comes packaged on a window box, with nicely done artwork, including an image of him on the side, as well as on the back and a description.

This release of Skeletor was inevitable to mass market given next years Masters of the Universe movie coming out, and the fact that this version of him has become a cult classic. While the film is not my particular cup of tea, there’s no denying the designs and characters have become fan-favorites. Skeletor is given the movie treatment in Masterverse, and comes in his black outfit, with purple armor, that has metallic, a burgundy belt buckle, as well as sculpted patterns and details on the outfit fit, highlighted in metallic silver deco on the skirt, and the two pieces hanging down the front, with a purple wash closer to the top. His cape is made of soft goods, and is also removable by removing the head, and you have the option to remove other parts of the clothing.

The head sculpt is painted white with some black wash, and it’s supposed to look like a Skull but actually this design always looked like a mask to me. The hood is attached to the head, and painted in a dark brown to match the collar piece, which mostly hangs down the back.

Included with Skeletor are two sets of interchangeable hands, a staff, a sword and the Cosmic Key from the film.

The accessories are all nicely done with added details, such as the handle of the sword, top of the staff, and the Cosmic Key is sculpted in its closed position, and given a total of five different colors (metallic gold, red, metallic silver, metallic purple, and has a brown handle that can be held in his open chop hand). Each of these accessories go above and beyond what you’d expect for the price point.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed torso, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists,  swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, swivel boots, hinged and rocker ankles.

Comparing him to his Masters of the Universe Classics counterpart is the most fun when looking at these. As you can see, there are some differences and similarities in the designs, while both are based on the same appearance from the film. The sculpt is 100% unique, but some of the details on the clothing are remarkably close, including the accessories. The head sculpt has some differences, including more deco on the MOTU Classics offering compared to the new Masterverse release, and it should be noted that this new release has some bright metallic colors that the MOTU Classics release doesn’t have on the armor. The staff and sword however are very close, with the exception of the color of the top of the staff and differences on the handle of the sword.

Overall, Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Masterverse line continues to offer some great looking figures inspired from the film, and Skeletor is a perfect example of that. You are definitely going to want to jump in on this line, even if you already have the MOTU Classics figures. He is an essential part of this collection so make sure to grab him now.
