Thank you to Playmates Toys for sending along their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Classic Adventure Heroes Collection – Series 2 Figure Box Set  for review.

This Turtles set comes in a white shipping box, with green lettering and the Turtles logo on both sides. The handle comes through the top, and you can cut the tape on one side to open it. The next part of the packaging is artwork featuring the Party Wagon, with Splinter driving, Donatello on the side door, Michelangelo at the back, and Ray Fillet in flight next to it. Each figure comes in retro inspired blister card, with artwork that will be familiar to you if you collected the vintage line, and below that on the back are images of the figures.

Donatello and Michelangelo each use the comic-inspired sculpt that Playmates Toys created in recent years, and given new deco inspired from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures comic book series. This includes light green skin, beige chests, a brown belt and shell, and their iconic colors including Purple and Orange bandana’s, elbow and knee pads, and wrist bands.

Donatello includes his bo staff, and Michelangelo includes two nunchucks, which are made of a hard plastic, and prone to breakage if you apply too much pressure. A breakdown of the articulation is featured in the video, but I will say that not having a wrist swivel on these gives the movement of the arms especially when holding the accessories limited options to pose them. That has already been the one drawback about these sculpts I didn’t like.

Splinter comes in his classic 1988 figure sculpt, and comes in a purple robe with white trim that is made of fabric, white bandages around his ankles, brown sculpted fur, dark grey deco on the feet, hands, tail, and head, with a black nose.

He includes a weapons rack that needs the accessories removed, and a bow and arrow. The other accessories includes two throwing stars, his cane with a blade, and a sheath for the blade.

Ray Fillet is also a reissue from his 1990 figure and given comic-inspired deco. This has always been one of my favorite figures back in the vintage line, and getting him again is truly a gift. He is a mutant Manta Ray, and has the characteristics of that. He comes in a yellow and light green shirt, light green and grey fliers, and a blue skin tone.

He includes his vintage accessories, which are the Ray Gill Gun, Fish Stix, and a Scarfish.

Overall, this is a great set that’s better than I personally thought when looking at pictures online. Fans are going to love this set, and the first one if you haven’t picked that up already. Make sure to add both sets to your collection now!
