Super7 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates! Wave 8 Genghis Frog Figure Review

Super7 is offering their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates! Wave 8 figures, which includes Shredder, Genghis Frog, Robot Rocksteady and Raph the Space Cadet. These figures are given modern updates and inspired from the vintage toyline. In the cartoon, Genghis Frog is a member of the Punk Frogs, which are a group of frogs that were mutated and trained by Shredder to combat the turtles. They ultimately switched sides when the turtles showed them compassion, and had a number of memorable guest appearances throughout the series.

Thank you to Super7 for sending along their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Ultimates! Wave 8 Genghis Frog Figure for review.

Availability: October 2023

Genghis Frog is packaged in a window box with a slipcover, with artwork on the front of the slipcover, including an image of him in dark grey, and the classic logo on the back. Once removed, the packaging is consistent with the rest of the line, including nicely done artwork in green and grey, the classic logo, and his name underneath on the bottom. On the back is more great artwork, including a bio and company logo’s. The green part of the artwork also has graffiti, which is in various colors and design.

Genghis Frog is given a modern sculpt and inspired from his classic vintage action figure from 1989, and makes his rightful debut Super7’s Ultimates line-up. He is a member the Punk Frogs, and he comes sculpted in a beach or Hawaiian blue shirt with yellow patterns that include lightning bolts and stars, red and yellow trunks, and he has a metallic gold wrist band on the left, and a red watch on the right. On the left ankle there is a yellow band, and all of this is non-removable. There is also a removable Bandolier with grenades, which is brown, and the grenades are red and metallic silver.

The skin tone is light and dark green, with sculpted lumps that give is a realistic look and feel.

The head sculpts both look incredibly detailed and fits in with the design. The closed mouth head is what is based on the vintage figure, while the open mouth with the tongue sticking out is something entirely new, wacky, and just fun to pose. The tongue and inside of the mouth are painted in different shades of pink, which is a nice tough. The teeth on both heads are white, with white eyes and blue pupils. The skin tone, lumps and detail are the same on both heads.

Genghis Frog comes with accessories that have also been given modern updates to his vintage toy release, including a tongue gun, sunglasses, boogie board with a leash, a removable metallic gold necklace, Bandolier with grenades, three sets of interchangeable hands (closed fisted, gripping and weapon gripping hands), and two interchangeable head sculpts.

The sunglasses include blue frames and black lenses, and simply are placed right on top of either head sculpt.

The tongue gun is by far my favorite of his accessories, as the name sake just describes it. The gun part is blue, metallic silver and green, with a giant tongue poking out of it that can turn when you twist the red handle of the gun. The vintage toy had an all blue tongue gun with a small tongue, so this is definitely refreshing to see the tongue expand this long.

The boogie board with the leash is painted in blue, with yellow patterns and stripes, and the leash is on a black string, and is on the fragile side. The boogie board has a handle so he can hold it as a shield, which is a nice touch.

He is also fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, swivel waist, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, while I’m a bit behind on opening and displaying the TMNT Ultimates collection, getting Genghis Frog in-hand just proves once again how awesome these figures are coming out. This is by far his best figure to-date, and the deign team (most likely the Four Horsemen) have once again outdone themselves with the detailed design, and quality of this figure. Fans of the vintage line, and upcoming collectors would definitely want Genghis Frog to their collection.
