In 2024, Mattel will be bringing Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles together in a new co-brand line called Turtles of Grayskull, which brings both of these iconic 80’s properties together for the first-time. The first wave consists of Donatello, Leonardo, Mutated He-Man and Man-At-Arms, all in Origins style.
Thank you to Mattel for sending along their Turtles of Grayskull Donatello Figure for review.
Availability: December 2023; 2024
Donatello comes in the standard Origins style blister card, with the Turtles of Grayskull logo, beautifully done artworkand exploding rockers on the front, and the back consists of artwork feating Donatello facing off against Beast Man, with Castle Grayskull in the background. Below that is a description, a look at the wave and instructions that the shell is removable.
Donatello includes a mini-comic featuring the Masters of the Universe and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, including Shredder, Krang, Skeletor and even Leatherhead makes an appearance. No more spoilers here, but if you want more watch the video above as I show page by page.
Donatello is given some shared parts with He-Man, and given a new the torso, armor and head. The armor is painted in purple (Donatello’s color) and some metallic silver, with his skin tone a dark green, beige chest, metallic silver belt, metallic silver bracelets, and some purple on the ankles. The armor is given some sculpted details and grooves, with some of it looking like a turtle shell. The shell on the back is removable and becomes his shield, which is grown and includes a black belt with a holster for the staff/mace accessory.
The head sculpt features a helmet that is non-removable, with a purple bandana, white eyes, an open grin with teeth showing, and the bandana hangs down the right.
Included is a bo staff/mace, a removable shell, a mini-comic and a sheet of instructions showcasing which parts are removable. The staff/mace accessory includes a long handle, with Man-At-Arms mace as his primary weapon. The staff/mace can also be stored on the back of the shell, and the shell becomes a shield he can hold.
The armor is removable, and you get Donatello with all his skin showing, with the lion cloth, ankle cuffs, and helmet all that remains. He is also left without a shell on his back, which only has a bare green shell where the brown shell should be.
Overall, Donatello is an excellent offering and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Turtles of Grayskull line brings the best of both of these iconic 80’s properties that generations have grown up knowing. Donatello makes sense to cross him over with Man-At-Arms, as both are brilliant inventors. Highly recommended to get these once they become available!
