Mattel is kicking off the year strong with their Masters of the Universe x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Turtles of Grayskull line that is a co-brand offering that brings the best of both of these franchises together for the first-time since they both started in the 1980’s. One of this years most memorable figures will be Krang, as he pays tribute to the Masters of the Universe characters Megator, a green skinned giant that fought against King Grayskull and He-Ro. These two characters have some elements in common, as Krang’s android baby body can increase his size, and Megator is already a giant, and both are known to use a mace and chain weapon.
Krang was first released by Mattel at their local store in El Segundo toy store, so some fans will already have him in hand. His official release is a Wal-Mart exclusive as part of the Wal-Mart Collector Con, taking place from March 14th and 15th at 7am PST. The figure is priced at $24.99. You will be able to buy him and other figures by clicking HERE!
Thank you to Mattel for sending along their Masters of the Universe x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – Turtles of Grayskull Krang Figure for review.
Availability: March 2024 – Wal-Mart Collector Con
Krang is packaged in a window box, with artwork featuring the Turtles of Grayskull logo, Snake Mountain and slime, and images the character on the front, sides, and the back. Also on the back is a description, and a look at his features. Krang comes in a plastic tray along with his accessories.
Right out of the box, Krang is the largest figure offered so far in Origins style, and pays tribute to both Krang’s android body, and Masters of the Universe Megator. Megator’s green skin color, skull on the chest armor, lion cloth, and muscular physique are the homages given to the figure, and for Krang you have the shape of the head, metallic silver visor are the homages you’re getting for Krang. The size on this figure is something that both characters have an advantage of over enemies, so making him a taller figure makes sense and a tribute to both characters. The gloves, boots, and helmet are neon red, with the head also given yellow horns on the sides, and white teeth. The chains on the chest, back and lion cloth are something new, but works well for this character, and are painted in a metallic copper.
Krang includes a handful of accessories, including the torso piece that fits in-between the upper and lower bodies (where Krang’s brain fits into), Krang brain, a mace with chainlink, axe, a collector card with a description of both characters on the back, and an instruction sheet to see what parts are swappable and interchangeable of Krang to other figures.
Krang is fully articulated in Origins style, and includes a ball jointed head and neck, swivel hair, ball hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.
The mace and chain, and axe swap out with a hand, and are plugged in. The mace has chains made out of plastic, and the axe is double-bladed with some battle damaged on the blades.
The torso piece where Krang’s brain is put in fits in-between the upper and lower body, and you would have to split it apart to make this happen. This is painted in the same copper deco, with orange circles on the sides, and a dark metallic green door in the front. With this torso piece, he gets a swivel point of articulation on the top and bottom.
Krang’s brain fits perfectly inside, and the tentacles fit through the two squares on the sides. He can also hold both of the accessories at the same time in his wrists.
Comparing him with Andre/Titus, he’s taller than that figure and far more menacing looking. Megator was last seen in Mattel’s Masters of the Universe Classics line, and the second image here is a comparison with that figure. The mace and chain pays homage to both characters as they use it as a weapon. Krang can also increase his size, making him a far more dangerous adversary. Hopefully, Mattel will offer a larger version of this figure, but that seems unlikely.
Here’s a comparison with the rest of the line that I currently have in-hand.
Overall, Krang is a phenomenal figure that fans will surely want to add to their collection. There’s a lot to love about this line, especially this figure as he brings the best of both Krang and Megator, and he’s a great crossover character. Krang is surely one of this years best offerings, so make sure to grab him!
