NECA Toys Alien: Covenant 7″ Scale Figures Review

NECA Toys Alien: Covenant line-up consists of the 7″ scale Xenomorph, 7″ scale Neomorph, a new Alien creature pack, as well as a scaler. This new line-up is based on the film directed by Ridley Scott. The Neomorph is a new creature that is introduced in the film and stands approximately 9″ tall. The Xenomorph is something that fans will know, as the design is the same as previous Alien films. This Alien stands over 10″ tall.

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, members (Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup) of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think to be an uncharted paradise. While there, they meet David (Michael Fassbender), the synthetic survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition. The mysterious world soon turns dark and dangerous when a hostile alien life-form forces the crew into a deadly fight for survival.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Neomorp and Xenomorph figures for review.

Alien: Covenant introduces a new type of Xenomorph called a Neomorph. The Neomorph is quite different than the Xenomorp. The Neomorph is far more feral and animal-like than a typical Xenomorph, and will attack anyone on sight. In addition, Neomorphs do not possess an extendable inner jaw which can be used to attack, instead their “gums” extend out in a manner similar to Goblin Sharks and even the Deacon. Also, while the teeth of a Xenomorph’s outer jaws are usually visible, a Neomorph’s jawline is nearly invisible when closed. The skin tone is pale, white-grey with a translucent appearance (at least in the film). The Neomorph features a fleshy tail tipped with spikes, which can be used as a devastating slashing and battering weapon, and a large number of silvery fangs in their mouth, which appears circular when closed.

The Neomorph stands at approximately 9″ tall and features an alternate interchangeable head with a closed mouth, has over 30 points of articulation and a bendable tail. In appearance, the body resembles that of a Xenomorph with the bony chest, long arms, legs and bendable tail. The head sculpt and the back are completely different, and this version does not have an extended mouth piece. His face is more flat looking, and the jaw is non-articulated. The back of the head is also thinner and less rounded compared to the Xenomorph, and the tip of it is pointy. The back bendable bones sticking out, along with the spine having spikes showing through his lower back.

The baby Neomorph is articulated with a swivel neck, and swivel arms. The body is also bendable, including the tail, spikes on his back, arms and legs. Standing him up right isn’t possible as he constantly falls over. The deco is nicely done, with white and repainted on, along with the beige spikes sticking up through his back. The mouth details are also there, but these are tiny and covered in red deco.

The Alien stands 10″ tall and is the more common design that fans will know. The body features the same high-end detail and sculpting as previous Alien figures had, which includes all of the articulation previously seen. The figure also includes an extended mouth piece, bendable tail, and the deco is black with a brown wash over it. Besides the sculpting, the deco is nicely detailed and looks incredible.

Overall, NECA have once again offered a great set of figures that are based on the Alien: Covenant film. Fans of the film and Alien franchise will definitely want to check these out.
