Playmates Toys Ben 10 Rustbucket Transforming Vehicle To Playset Review

Playmates Toys Ben 10 toyline has taken the toy aisle by storm, and have introduced the first vehicle in the line called the Rustbucket, a transforming motor home that becomes a playset capable of displaying most of the 5″ figures currently out on store shelves. The Rustbucket transforms into a giant 3-level playset that stands over 2 feet tall, and includes  an alien transformation chamber, plasma blaster, alien-vator, grabbing claw, alien lab and more.

During San Diego Comic-Con 2017, we had a chance to catch up with the Ben 10 brand team and get all of the updated information for you. This included that the next batch of 5″ figures will be available in October at Toys “R” Us. All of the updated information can be found here.

Thank you to Playmates Toys for providing their Ben 10 Rustbucket Transforming Vehicle To Playset for review.

Availability: June 2017 – available first at Toys “R” Us

The Rustbucket looks to be a normal motor home, but includes an amazing transformation feature that transforms it into a 2 foot playset. In motor home form, the Rustbuster features four rotating tires cast in black plastic, a satellite, a missile launcher, a side ladder, and two front chairs with a steering wheel. The vehicle comes with labels that are unapplied, and in this mode the red stripes, alien UFO symbol, front and rear headlights, and more need to be applied. The truck also features a hook in the front, and a rear platform in the back that can store at least two figures. The truck is cast in blue plastic on the front, and light grey on the bottom, with dark grey and red in the front, and a yellowish-green on the roof. There are plenty of windows on the sides to see some of the pieces from the playset.

Once transformed as specified in the instructions, the playset stands 2 feet tall, and the sides of the truck becomes a laboratory that spread out to the side. The laboratory is displayed using labels, which are also applied to the computer screen showcasing Cannonball and the exam table on the right of the lab. The bottom of the truck becomes the base, which supports the beams once connected. The beams are supported by three latches that keeps them in place. This network of beams and latches supports the front of the truck, along with the roof that is behind it. The missile launcher on the roof is connected to the (rotating cannon) chair that is below it, and the missile launcher can be moved forth and back, or raised. The ladder hangs down from it, and is connected to a red platform that can be folded up when it’s time to revert it back into truck mode. In addition to this, there is also an elevator that connects to the hook of the front of the truck, and can be lowered on the light grey platform to the front. The alien transformation chamber resembles that of a vintage Star Trek transporter from either The Original Series or The Next Generation toy line, with the chamber swinging around to reveal the other side of it. For example, if Ben is placed on one side, then the chamber is spun around he would be transformed into an alien. There is also a claw arm that can be placed on one of the laboratory into one of the open ports. Also in the playset mode, the wheels fold down so it doesn’t roll around. All of these features, and almost all of the parts can be folded up and placed back inside the back of the truck is a remarkable accomplishment from the Ben 10 brand team, as this is definitely one of the nicest playsets they’ve done this year.

Overall, this is a fantastic vehicle and playset that fans will love.
