SDCC 2017 – Playmates Toys Ben 10 & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Interview

Following up on our report from earlier this morning, we are back from our interview with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brand team manager Pat Linden. In addition, we were pleasantly surprised to meet with the brand team of Ben 10.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:

2018 – The Turtles will have an all new, all different look, origin, design, and have both new and old characters. The animation will be 2D as opposed to 3D. Playmates Toys did not go into story concepts on this, but updates will be available at New York Comic-Con in October from Nickelodeon.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Ghostbusters co-brand 6″ figures are will be a Target Stores exclusive. The WWE/TMNT wave 2 co-brand figures will be available in July. You can order the wave now on Entertainment Earth and BigBadToyStore.

Micro Series 1.5″ will see 3 new vehicles, one is a 2-in-1 feature – Street Sweeper Vehicle and Playset

6″ TMNT figures on hold due to the new 2018 series after the TMNT / GB co-brand figures are released. No updates on the TMNT / WWE co-brand. There are also no plans for a TMNT / Star Trek 6″ figure crossover at this time.

2018 – Will not see new Micro Minis sets, but there will be 5″ basic figures, 5 1/2″ Deluxe figures with features, vehicles and playsets.

2017 will see the TMNT / Monster 5″ figures coming out this Fall as seen at NYTF.

 

Ben 10:

Wave 2  5″ figures will be out in mid-October a Toys “R” Us, with more stores to follow later that month and into November.  These figures are seen in our video walkthrough at New York ToyFair 2017.

In Spring of 2018, fans will also see refreshed versions of the 5” Figures.  The aliens become “Omni-enhanced”, based on the new season 2 storyline of the TV show. The first wave of this will see release in January across all major retailers.

Also in Spring 2018 – Alien Vehicles will be coming.  There will be an assortment of 2 vehicles to start, with a Heatblast Rocket Flyer and Diamondhead Driller Tank. Each will come with an exclusive figure and will be sold for $19.99. There is also a new concept with Omni-Launch Battle Figures (the launcher resembles a watch that kids wear) and launches 3” alien figures.  Each pack includes 1 launcher and 3 figures for $19.99.  There is an assortment of 2 different packs.

No plans for co-brand figures like TMNT.

 

Mysticons:

The Ben 10 team had some new information on Mysticons. This is a new show airing on Nickelodeon aired to girls. The toy line will see an early launch at Toys “R” Us. and everywhere else in Spring 2018.
