NECA Heroes Of The Storm Series 3 Thrall (Warcraft) Figure Review

NECA brings us the third series of Blizzard’s Heroes of the Storm action figures, based on the online multiplayer game that combines all of Blizzards beloved characters from their various titles. Heroes of the Storm is always adding new characters to it’s roster giving this line the potential to massively expand.

Thrall (Go’el of the Frostwolf clan) is one of the most recognizable names from the Horde in Warcraft lore. He is the liberator of the Orcs and the founder of Durotar (named after his father, Durotan) and it’s capital city Orgrimmar (named after his mentor Orgrim Doomhammer). He was the war chief of the united Horde before renouncing his title and becoming their spiritual leader as chief shaman (the earth water of Azeroth).

Thrall first appeared in the novel Warcraft: Of Blood and Honor (2001) and Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002). His figure stands at 6.75″ at the top of his pony tail and is based off his classic war chief design.

Thrall comes with his Doomhammer which separates into two pieces allowing you to easily slide it into his hand. The Doomhammer is painted a silverish blue with a black wash effect on it to show off the detail of the sculpt. The hammer also features a wolf’s head, the crest of the Frostwolf’s clan and has a brown handle. Much like most of NECA’s figure, Thrall has an amazing amount of detail. A lot of his sculpting appears to be angled off to represent the somewhat blockiness of the graphics from the game. His skin is painted a nice bright green, with blue eyes and black hair. The figure has a black wash throughout most of the figure giving his bronze colored armor a nice worn look to it, and texture on his skin. He has a blue and black loin cloth with some feathers attached to his belt. His armor is all separate pieces that are not removable and have been glued to the figure.

Thrall has many points of articulation although some are limited do to the bulkiness of his armor. His articulation includes: His head is on a ball joint, ball jointed shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, ball jointed wrists, waist swivel, ball jointed hips with a limited range of motion, swivel-hinged knees, and ball jointed ankles. Also, his pony tail can rotate a full 360 degrees and his braids have a bendable wire that runs through them, allowing you to pose them anyway you like.

Warcraft figures have been attempted by several companies but NECA’s figures are truly articulated art. I love this line even though I’m more of a Warcraft fan than Heroes of the Storm. DC collectables made beautiful Warcraft figures, however they were more statue then figure and had zero play value. NECA’s figures fit decently with the Jakks Pacific’s movie figures (which is how I have them displayed) with scale just a little off. I have great hopes for this line and pray for it to have a long life, I only wish we see more frequent releases.
