The DC Icons Super Sons Robin and Superboy 2 pack are based on their appearance as seen in the 2017 Super Sons series by DC Comics. In the series, the characters are based on their adolescent years, and DC Collectibles have done a remarkable job capturing the likeness to these sculpts. Jonathan Kent is the sons of Superman and Lois Lane, and Damian Wayne is the son of Batman and Talia al Ghul.
Damian Wayne stands at 4 1/2″ tall, and is sculpted in the classic Robin colors, with red, green, dark grey and yellow that fans all know too well. On the upper left side of his chest, is the Robin logo in yellow and black. The costume is nicely detailed and painted with only a few spot of paint bleeding, as the belt buckle is the only part about the figure that we can find that has some gold paint bleeding. The shirt is painted in red, with yellow deco on the sides, and the lower portion of the shirt is made of soft plastic that is the same soft plastic used on the cape. The utility belt has pouches all around, with a gold belt buckle. The pants, arms, and most of the utility belt are painted in dark grey. The pants have green knee guards, and green boots with red shoe laces. The gloves on the arms are painted in metallic green, that is also used on the mask on his face. The mask also includes white eyes with black trim around it. The hair is painted black, with nicely detailed sculpting. Included are interchangeable hand sculpts with various grips, and in two of them he is holding a claw and batarang, and a bo staff. The articulation is what you would expect, with the cape getting in the way of the shoulder articulation when he raises his arms.
Jonathan Kent stands at almost 5″ tall, and is sculpted in the classic blue, red and yellow Superman colors. The Superman “S” logo is on the top of his chest in red and yellow, as well as the back of his soft plastic cape. The paint apps are nicely done and there are crisp lines separating the red, dark and light blue colors on the jacket. The red deco on the center of the chest going down is the zipper part of the jacket, The jeans are town at the knee and upper part of the left leg, and are painted in a light blue that is different than the jacket. Like the jacket, the jeans are sculpting very nicely with realistic folds and great paint apps. The sneakers are the same red as the cape and parts of the jacket, with white deco on the front, and along the bottom of the sides and bottom. The head sculpt is very nicely done and detailed, with a good likeness to the comic book artwork. The facial details are superb, with the light blue eyes and black hair. The articulation is the same as Robin’s (Damian Wayne) and in this case the cape does not block the shoulder articulation. Jonathan Kent includes interchangeable hand sculpts and an acrylic hover base.
Overall, this is very nice looking set that comic goers will love. If you are reading the Super Sons comic or are a DC fan, then this is for you.
