The IDW Revolution story did an excellent job bringing together all of these iconic characters and many others from their respective franchises. The set includes some newly tooled parts, and some clever reuse from G.I. Joe and possibly from whatever else Hasbro’s G.I. Joe and Transformers brand teams could cook up. If you look closely, there are a lot of parts that are familiar here, including the body, limbs, armor, and accessories. Some newly tooled parts include each of the Micronauts, various parts for Leoric from Visionaries, the torso, head, and accessory for ROM, the Dire Wraith uses some parts from a G.I. Joe Zombie Viper (including the arms) along with new parts, and Matt Tracker from MASK uses parts from G.I. Joe. Action Man also uses some parts from G.I. Joe modern figures, and is given a new head. These parts all work extremely well, as do all of the parts used for the set.
Transformers Jetfire uses the Thrilling 30 figure mold with a matte red deco over the metallic version that was originally released. The logo on his chest is also different and has a lighter backdrop behind it over the original version. The colors used here are also closer to the Japanese colors. Roadblock is from G.I. Joe Renegades, an unreleased figure mold and this allows G.I. Joe collectors to finish off the Renegades line. The Micronauts figures are tiny PVC non-articulation figures, and the designers were able to capture a god likeness and even apply some facial details on those tiny heads.
One of the best details in the set are the labels used on Leoric from Visionaries. It has the ability to change color on his chest, as well as the flag he holds. This is definitely a nice touch, and the blue deco used matches the character nicely.
Overall, there is a lot to love for this set and there is definitely something here for everyone that is a fan of any of these franchises. The only real downside we see is there will be a few characters in this set that most fans will know little or nothing about. However, the design, parts, deco, and tooling more than make up for a little lack of knowledge, and fans will definitely enjoy this set.
