NECA Toys Friday The 13th – Camp Crystal Lake Accessory Pack Review

NECA Toys is offering their Friday The 13th – Camp Crystal Lake Accessory Pack that is compatible with their 7″ scale Jason Voorhees figures. This is the first of its kind for NECA Toys, which are diorama pieces based on the classic horror film Friday the 13th. This set includes the Camp Crystal Lake Sign, Dock Base, and a Rock and Sign Base with Chain to wrap around Jason Voorhees so he is floating at the bottom of the lake as seen in the film.

These pieces were originally seen in multiple Friday the 13th films and are iconic to the franchise. These make great additions to any diorama and action figure displays and are meant to enhance the enjoyment of your collecting. These pieces almost look realistic, as if they came straight out of the film, which is surely something special and a nice treat for fans of this line. NECA Toys continues to offer incredible collectibles with some of the best tooling, sculpting and deco for a reasonable price.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Friday The 13th – Camp Crystal Lake Accessory Pack for review.

Availability: March 2018

The very first thing we have to say in kicking off this review is WOW. Just wow. NECA Toys continues to impress fans with their offerings, and this Friday the 13th accessory pack has some of the very best film accurate detail that they’ve ever offered. If you’ve been collecting their offerings, that says a lot right there. These diorama’s are in scale with their 7″ action figures, and works well with any figure they’ve released from the Ultimate line or even before that.

If you’ve seen the film, and if you are reading this review you probably have, you will know full well this is the camp that you most definitely won’t want to work at as a Camp Council due to the short life expectancy and especially the fact of an undead serial killer on the loose, or as Evil Dead fans know that Jason Voorhees is actually a deadite that Ash Williams is known for taking down. This is the first thing you see just before you end up on the camp grounds, which is a metal sign with two lights shining on it at night, and hung by wooden posts and a chain link. This recreation of the sign has some very nice details that makes it look as realistic as possible, and even the posts look like wood, and the chain links are real. The sign is mostly yellow, with blue and red text, and a colorful image of the lake that makes it look like a fun and peaceful place. Well, at least it used to be before Jason Voorhees drowned. The deco on the sign looks just like it does in the film, and even has the red designs on the edges. The posts stand on two acrylic stands to support it, and these stands have pegs so that the bottom of the posts can be inserted.

The lights include bulbs, and the silver posts are bent so that they are shining on the sign. The sign stands at almost 7 1/2″ across when you measure the acrylic stands on the bottom, and almost 7 1/2″ tall.

As great as the sign is, the Dock Base is even better. This inlaces an actual dock that is connected to rocks on the ground, with an edge that clearly has the lake underneath it. Just like the sign, the Dock Base is realistically detailed with what looks like a real wood dock, with wooden tree posts to support it. The dock is textured as if it were made with wood flooring, with staples on either side of it connected to a supporter underneath to hold it in place. The dock is painted in a dark brown with a light wash over it to make it look realistic, and the support posts on the side are painted darker with a light wash over it as well. The rocks on the end also has a texture to it, that makes it look and feel real. There is also a light that shins at the end of the deck, with a light bulb that is painted in yellow and white. The light is connected to a long post that is similar to the posts on the sign, and the light and its post is connected to the wood post using clamps. At the bottom of the metal post, is a black wire so that the electricity can run through it.  The dock is comparable with one or more 7″ figures by NECA, and works best for Jason Voorhees.

The Dock Base measures almost 6 1/2″ long, 4 1/4″ wide, and 11″ tall.

The Rock and Sign Base includes a chain is what is kept to keep Jason Voorhees floating at the bottom of the lake. The sign is similar to the welcome sign shown above, with less detail and no artwork. The words Crystal Lake were crossed out in red spray paint, and replaced by the word “BLOOD”, so it reads Welcome To Camp Blood. The bottom part of the sign includes fungus from being underwater for an unknown amount of time, and has a texture to it that is painted in a dark brown. The sign is connected to a rock, with a chain wrapped around it with a lock, which is used to keep Jason floating underwater. There is a separate long chain that is included, with the end of it that is used to be inserted into the rock, and the chain is wrapped around his neck keeping him from escaping. There is a clear acrylic piece that connects to the back of the rock, and onto Jason to give him the appearance of floating underwater.

Overall, this is a beautiful set with a superior amount of detail that makes it look realistic to the Friday the 13th film. The sculpting, deco and overall likeness is truly amazing, and NECA’s team have outdone themselves yet again. Fans of the film, horror fans, and overall action figure enthusiasts will love this set.

The set requires some assembly and is on the fragile side, so be extra careful when connecting the parts together. There are no instructions, but this is pretty much straight forward and all you need are the images on the box to figure out how to put it together. This is definitely recommended for adults, and not so much kids and they might end up breaking something.
