The first two of Mattel’s San Diego Comic-Con 2018 exclusives has been announced, which includes DC Multiverse Aquaman, Ocean Master and Black Manta 3-pack, as well as a Hot Wheels set based on Action Comics #1.
Update – We have learned that Mattel will be offering a pre-sale for non-attendees on 6/26 and ends on 7/1 on Mattel Shop.
The DC Multiverse set is based on classic Aquaman character designs and the figure sculpts have been repainted based on older DC Comics back issues from 1962. These figures are 6″ scaled and have 23 points of articulation. Aquaman is in his classic scaled orange and green suit, and in the packaging he finds himself trapped between Ocean Master, with his signature cape, mask and a spear weapon, and Black Manta, who comes with three interchangeable, friction-fit eyepieces, a backpack and a harpoon. This set is priced at $60.
Hot Wheels will see a new set based on the classic Action Comics $1 cover, where Superman lifts that green sedan and saves a trapped civilian. This cover goes back from 1938, and is one of the most all-time recognizable covers ever printed. This set is priced at $20.
At this time, there is no word on pre-ordering this exclusive before the show as offered since the early days of Mattycollector, but if history is any indication, Mattel will [hopefully] continue to offer this much appreciated method. That announcement will hopefully happen soon.
