DC Collectibles – DC Essentials The Flash Figure Review

DC Collectibles is offering a brand new line called DC Essentials for 2018 with figure sculpts that are bigger, bulkier and more detailed compared to last years DC Icons line. This new line now takes over their flagship action figure collector offering that is based on the DC Rebirth storyline. Already confirmed for DC Essentials are twelve new figures – The Flash, Batman, Reverse Flash, Deathstroke, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, Nightwing, Aquaman, Shazam and Black Adam 2-pack, Black Manta, and Brainiac. These figures were designed by Jason Fabok and are scaled to 7″ tall.

The first wave of figures includes The Flash, Deathstroke (reviewed HERE), Reverse Flash and Batman, and because the sculpts are bigger compared to Icons, fans can also expect the price to increase to $26-$27 each. This is only a couple of dollars more compared to DC Icons, which prices ranged roughly $22-$24 for a standard sized figure. The differences in the figure speaks for itself, and you can take a look at the gallery below as in this case a picture shows why these would cost a few dollars more than what DC Collectibles was offering with DC Icons. Ultimately, this is an upgrade to that, which also fits in better with some of their older DC offerings.

Thank you to DC Collectibles for providing The Flash for an advanced look and review.

Availability: July 2018

The Flash stands at 6 3/4″ tall and features a more muscular figure sculpt that resembles some of the older figures offered but with more articulation. The Flash is based on his appearance in DC Rebirth, and features a great likeness to the comic. The muscular details are nicely sculpted and all of the definition is there. His head sculpt features a good facial likeness with an almost realistic looking amount of detail. His blue eyes and painted lips are a nice touch, and the skin tone is visible around the face and eyes. His body is covered in a red costume that is tight to his body, with detailed lightning bolts around his waist, forearms, sculpted detailed lighting bolts on the sides of his head, and the detailed paint deco and logo on his chest. His boots are the same yellow deco as his lightning bolts.

His articulation is also upgraded compared to most other releases we’ve seen, which includes a swivel-hinged neck, ab crunch, ball hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and ball jointed ankles.

Overall, The Flash is an excellent figure with great updated detail and an excellent sculpt. Even if you’ve been collecting DC Icons, DC Essentials will surely impress you. DC Essentials will hit stores this July, and you can pre-order these now at the links below.
