Time to float.
Stephen King’s terrifying dancing and murdering clown Pennywise was in the big screen last year as a retelling of the original novel. Director Andy Muschietti and actor Bill Skarsgård teamed up to bring Pennywise to audiences last year and immediately grabbed the attention of movie goers and fans following the trailers of this new modernized take. The first film focused on the young kids, calling themselves the Losers’ Club as they investigate disappearances of kids in their hometown and come across a terrifying history that leads to an even more terrifying clown.
NECA Toys is offering an Ultimate Pennywise figure based on the 2017 film, and comes with three interchangeable head sculpts, the SS Georgie paper sail boat, interchangeable hands, and a red balloon with string. During New York ToyFair, NECA Toys also revealed their upcoming 1990 Pennywise figure that will also be available this year.

Pennywise comes in a window boxed packaging with artwork on the cover based on the movie poster, and images of the clown himself on the sides, and especially in the back. The images on back show the different head sculpts as well as the accessories that are included in this release. The front cover opens to reveal the figure inside stored securely in a plastic tray with his accessories.
At New York ToyFair, NECA Toys revealed two versions of Pennywise, which included this terrifying new modern version from the 2017 film, as well as the 1990 television series version that Tim Curry had portrayed. This new version of Pennywise is the scariest that movie and television goers has seen so far, and NECA Toys has done a remarkable job once more capturing the likeness of this dancing clown. Pennywise is made of soft vinyl and plastic parts, with the softer parts such as the skirt around the hips allow the joints for easier movement.
Pennywise is sculpted in a old fashioned circus clown outfit that is painted in grey with red trim on the edges that look like hand stitching. There are also red balls on the shirt and tips of the boots. The clothing is nicely sculpted and detailed with realistic folds and textures throughout the outfit, which also matches what he looked like in the movie. The deco on the outfit has a slightly dirty look to it given the fact that this outfit is at least a century or two old. In the movie, Pennywise had a circus stage in his lair, so it makes sense that Pennywise was actually a real clown at some point that was likely the victim of this beast, and if you’ve seen the 1990 television series and read the book, you’ll have some idea what “It” actually is.
While the outfit has some great deco, all three of the head sculpts are equally amazing and keep true to the source material in the movie. The white paint on the heads has some textures and paint chipping away on the foreheads, and the facial expressions on all three heads are different to match what he looked like on screen. The facial expressions on all three heads are nicely done, and include a smiling face, black stare, and a teeth coming out of the mouth and ready to eat you. The hair is painted in orange with realistic detail and textures from the film, and the facial paint includes red lipstick on the mouth, that also goes up over the eyes and forehead. He also has a red nose, and frightening red eyes.
The clown is fully articulated, and includes a double ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, double jointed elbows, ball jointed wrists, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, double jointed knees, swivel and hinged ankles.
Included with Pennywise is a red balloon that is attached to a wire string, that fits into one particular hand sculpt that’s included just for the balloon. The string can be difficult to place into the hand, and some patience is required. He also includes the paper board SS Georgie, three head sculpts, and two sets of hands.
Overall, Pennywise is an excellent figure and definitely worth adding to your collection. The amount of detail, paint applications and accessories in this figure are amazingly detailed, and fans surely won’t want to miss this one.
