When the Batman of Earth-22 witnesses that Earth’s Joker destroy parts of Gotham, kill the entire rogue’s gallery, slaughter parents, and infect children with a new strain of Joker toxin, he snaps. Batman finally breaks his rule and kills the Joker. But doing so infects him with a new strain of the nanotoxin, which causes his brain to be re-written to be more like The Joker’s, making him a deadly combination of Batman and Joker.
