NECA Toys is now offering the first release of their new Predator Movie line-up, which is one of two new figures inspired by the new film. This is a new squeal to the 1087 Predator movie, and The Ultimate Fugitive Predator is a brand new character with new armor that hasn’t been seen before.
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.
Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Predator Movie – Fugitive Predator figure for review.
Availability: August 2018
The Predator Movie – Fugitive Predator comes in a window boxed packaging with a opening flap, with artwork on the cover, sides, back, as well as the back of the flap. The window reveals the figure inside that’s securely packaged in a plastic tray, with all of his accessories.
The Fugitive Predator is scaled to 7″ tall and is based on the new upcoming Predator Movie. This figure comes with the armor that is inspired by the new film, which is different than anything else seen before. This new design was done because these Predators are now generically advanced to make them better hunters. The two head sculpts come as masked, and unmasked, and both includes great detail. The masked head sculpt covers the face, and cannot be removed. The unmasked head sculpt showcases the facial details such as the mouth and jaw, which are nicely done. The forehead has some great paint applications and a textured sculpt, along with the hair on the back.
The armor is painted mostly in silver with dark grey, gold and black, which works well together. The shoulder, chest and back armor are separate pieces, and are placed over the figures body. The shoulder guards and made of a soft plastic, and include the shoulder mounted cannon that is articulated. The chest armor has some great detail and sculpting, and the armor pieces that cover the stomach and lower back are a softer plastic than the rest of the mid-section of the armor. The armor over the buttocks is also made with a soft plastic. The legs are also covered in armor, with the upper legs showing more of the Aliens skin and the lower legs are more protected. The thighs have a piece of armor that are separate pieces, with straps going around the thighs to keep them in place. The netting on the chest and legs are sculpted on.
There are two sets of forearms that are interchangeable. On this particular figure, the left forearm doesn’t want to come off and despite many failed attempts, we were unable to separate the forearm and gauntlet parts of the arm to swap that out with the other arm that is not armored. The arms with gauntlets has interchangeable blades, which allows you to attach them to it. These blades plus into the gauntlets, as opposed to sliding them in as the previous figures. These arms have closed fists, which are on a hinged joint to move them away from the blades.
The other sets of arms do not have armor on them, and are open handed allowing you to grab an opponent. These can be placed one at a time allowing you to mix and match with the other set of arms, or use both the unarmored arms (with the exception of this particular figure due to the explanation above).
The articulation is standard for what you would come to expect of Predator figures. This includes a ball jointed neck that’s on a pin joint, ball-hinged shoulders, double hinged and swivel elbows and forearms, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, double hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.
Overall, the Fugitive Predator is a great figure with excellent sculpting and detail. This is a spectacular figure that fans will love.
Besides the issue we had with the forearm, the unmasked head sculpt wasn’t able to pop on the neck and instead could only rest on it for the photoshoot. There was either an issue with the peg joint in the neck, or the hole underneath the unmasked head joint itself.
