Spyro The Dragon is a classic 1990’s video game that was offered on Playstation, and tells the story of a young dragon on a quest of freeing his fellow dragons from crystal prisons, which are scattered around their world. Each level is accessed through portals from a main world. The first game concludes with Spyro freeing all of the captured dragons and defeating the primary villain, Gnasty Gnorc. The franchise continued with a total of 11 games from 1998 – 2008.
In November 2018, the classic game was re-released for modern consoles for its 20th anniversary. Game players also saw the return of the classic video game Crash Bandicoot, which also saw several new figures by NECA Toys that we’ve been covering. In celebration of the first game, NECA Toys is offering a Spyro the Dragon figure that is available now.
Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Spyro The Dragon 7″ Scale Figure for review.

The back of the card shows an image of Spyro as well as a figure summary.
Spyro The Dragon is 7″ scaled and measures 10″ long with the head and tail are fully extended, and about 6″ high when the head is facing forward. The figure features an excellent figure sculpt and captures a great likeness to the character. The skin is sculpted with sculpted textures with scales and smoother texture on the underbelly that also has sculpted details. The figure includes a tail that has four ball joints, and the scales are on his back and goes down to the tail. The body has two wings that are ball jointed on top, and painted in a mix of yellow and orange. His head sculpt is excellent and really brings out the likeness, and has two horns with sculpted lines. The facial details are nicely done, including the paint applications on the eyes, sculpted details on the nose and mouth.
The figure is primarily painted in dark and light purple on the skin, orange and yellow wings and on the top of his head, yellow on the top of the tail, yellow horns, and yellow toe nails. The eyes are white, brown and black pupils, and nicely done.
His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed neck, ball hinged wings, ball hinged hips with limited range of motion, swivel-hinged ankles, four ball joints on the tail and the tip of it can swivel. The knees don’t have articulation, which would have given him more options for dynamic poses. What is also interesting to note is that the feet were put on incorrectly in the factory, and the bigger feet go in the front, and the smaller feet in the back. You would need to swap them around yourself.
Overall, Spyro The Dragon is an excellent figure with a great likeness and superior sculpt. This is the definitive figure of the character that you need to own and he goes great with Crash Bandicoot.
