NECA Toys IT 7″ Scale Ultimate “Dancing Clown” Pennywise Figure Review

NECA Toys is now offering one of the most highly anticipated releases in their Pennywise figure line-up, which is none other than the Ultimate “Dancing Clown” offering. This version features LED lights inside one of the heads, and comes with the insect arms as seen in the movie.

Based on Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of the nightmare-inducing clown, this 7″ scale figure has been painstakingly detailed to be as accurate to Pennywise’s ornate costume as possible, and is presented in an Ultimate format with special packaging and LED lights inside one of the heads. This version features 4 head sculpts, 3 of which are all-new heads: “Judith” Painting Head, “Emerging Arms” Head, and Light-Up “Deadlights” Head with LED light inside the mouth. The figure also includes interchangeable articulated insect arms, interchangeable forearms, and 2 pairs of hands.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their IT 7″ Scale Ultimate “Dancing Clown” Pennywise Figure for review.

Availability: June 2019

“Dancing Pennywise” is packaged in a window box with a fold down flap in homage to the Dancing Clown scene from the film. The packaging includes carnival looking artwork on the cover and sides, and images of the figure in action poses on the back. The inside flap also shows Pennywise dancing with flames behind him.

The “Dancing Pennywise” figure is sculpted with the same figure base as previous seen with his other releases, which is an old fashioned circus clown outfit that is painted in grey with red trim on the edges that look like hand stitching. There are also red balls on the shirt and tips of the boots. The clothing is nicely sculpted and detailed with realistic folds and textures throughout the outfit, which also matches what he looked like in the movie. The deco on the outfit has a slightly dirty look to it given the fact that this outfit is at least a century or two old. In the movie, Pennywise had a circus stage in his lair, so it makes sense that Pennywise was actually a real clown at some point that was likely the victim of this beast, and if you’ve seen the 1990 television series and read the book, you’ll have some idea what “It” actually is.

This offering is all about giving fans new variations of the character that was features in the 2017 film, including three new head sculpts that were not previously offered, as well as the angry head sculpt that was offered back in his first release, as well as the insect arms that works great and given so much attention to detail. The new head sculpts include the Deadlights head that has the LED effect, which has a nice bright orange light in the back of the throat. He also has the Emerging arms coming out of his head, and the Judith head that he used multiple times in the film. The arms appear to have been retooled to accommodate the removable arms for the insect arms, which are ball jointed at the elbows.

The articulation and most of the paint applications on the body are the same as previous releases as they use the same body base. The paint applications on the new head sculpts and insect arms look incredible and so life-like as seen in the film. Pennywise can freely stand with the insect arms, and he also comes with a set of forearms and closed fists, and interchangeable open hands.

Overall, Pennywise is an excellent figure and definitely worth adding to your growing collection. The amount of detail, paint applications and accessories in this figure are amazingly detailed, especially those horrific head sculpts that fans surely won’t want to miss out on. You may also want to pick up multiples of this figure given the amount of different ways to post him and interchangeable parts.
