Hasbro Star Wars The Black Series 6″ General Grievous Figure Review

Hasbro’s Star Wars The Black Series 6″ General Grievous figure is offered as a deluxe figure this year as part of their ongoing movie collection. This year as seen an increase in Original Trilogy offerings including the long awaited Sail Barge in the 3 3/4″ scale, Gamorrean Guard, Yakface and so many others that fans have been requesting in both the 6″ and 3 3/4″ scales for years. Hasbro is finally catching up on some of these demanded characters and we’re hopeful that more are coming, and interestingly enough it took Hasbro several years to get out a General Grievous figure for one reason or another, so we’re hopeful that more Original Trilogy characters, Clone Wars, Rebels, and even Expanded Universe characters are on the horizon sooner rather than later. General Grievous joins the line with a brand new numbering system on the side of the packaging, and he’s labeled as D1. The packaging is also different and is best described as closer to the packaging offered with the Gamorrean Guard 6″ figures.

Thank you to Entertainment Earth for sending along Hasbro’s Star Wars The Black Series 6″ General Grievous figure for review.

Availability: March 2019

General Grievous joins the 6″ Star Wars The Black Series line, and you can finally recreate some iconic poses of the character as he faces off against the Jedi as seen in the Clone Wars. General Grievous is best described as a larger scale figure of the 3 3/4″ line, as some of the parts, including the plastic used for the arms and legs feel flimsy and not has a high a quality that the other 6″ figures have been given in this line lately. If you own any of the 3 3/4″ figures that were offered in one or the movie lines, the quality in plastic feels about the same, and it’s even a little difficult getting Grievous to stand up right when posing him certain ways. The plastic used has made him feel rubbery and bendy, as opposed to a hard plastic more commonly used in the 6″ line, which would have been ideal for this character to make him more sturdy.

However, what is upgraded here is the articulation and deco, along with a cloth cape that has pockets for his lightsaber collection. The arms came out nicely done and can connect, and break apart into four arms as seen in the movies, Clone Wars tv series, and comics, and he can hold the lightsabers and blaster in his hands that fit in nice and sturdy. The 6″ figure has more articulation than the 3 3/4″ figures had, at it’s at least 40 points that should enable you to create some dynamic poses on him if it wasn’t so difficult to balance him with the ankles he was given. Not all of the articulation can be utilized because of the type of plastic used on this figure, which includes the points in his arms and legs. The figure is also a lighter weight compared to other 6″ figures, and feels more of the weight of a 3 3/4″ figure.

Aside from this, the sculpt and deco really bring out the likeness, especially his head sculpt and those organic eyes. It’s unfortunate that other parts of his organic body don’t show up in the sculpt, including his heart that was protected by armor in the chest plate, which did show up in the 3 3/4″ figure sculpts. The deco on this figure came out really well including the silver marks on the armor, which shows up nicely.

Included with General Grievous are four lightsaber hilts, four blades (2 blue and 2 green), a removable cape, and a droid blaster that can fit in anyone of his hands.

His articulation includes a reverse ball-jointed neck , ball-jointed upper and lower shoulders, swivel upper and lower biceps, ball-jointed upper and lower elbows, swivel upper and lower forearms, ball-jointed torso, ball-jointed hips, double hinge-jointed knees, hinge-jointed upper and lower legs, and ball-jointed ankles.

Overall, General Grievous is a nice looking figure that you should add to your collection, regardless of the plastic used on this figure, you do need him to add to your toy shelf. He makes a great display piece and features multiple different ways to pose him either with the cape, lightsabers, blaster or you can even mix it around to your delight. General Grievous is currently in-stock now on Entertainment Earth for $29.99.
