Disney Store Exclusive – Marvel Toy Box Captain Marvel, Wolverine & Spider-Man Figures Review

The Disney Store is now offering new Marvel Toy Box figures of Captain Marvel inspired in her movie outfit, X-Men’s Wolverine and Spider-Man that is inspired from his Spider-Man: Far From Home outfit. These figures, along with the Avengers Gift Box 5-Pack are the latest offerings in the line.

Captain Marvel Action Figure – Marvel Toybox – $12.95

Wolverine Action Figure – Marvel Toybox – $12.95

Spider-Man Action Figure – Marvel Toybox – Far From Home – $12.95

This latest wave from Disney Store offers fans additional head sculpts and more accessories than what has previous been offered, and they went all out on Wolverine and Captain Marvel. The inclusion of Wolverine in this line opens a lot of doors for Disney to offer more X-Men characters, Deadpool, and others that area likely down the road at some point, and Disney Store can even offer variations of Wolverine and Deadpool such as 80’s Wolverine, 90’s Wolverine in his Jim Lee costume, and X-Force Deadpool. The sky is the limit right now for these Toy Box figures and it looks like Disney has barely even tapped into the core of the Marvel Universe. We’ve already seen updates and different costumes for Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man and there is even a new Captain America with his bike and Winter Soldier coming this holiday. Big things are happening with this line, and that’s not even including their Star Wars, Pixar and Disney Toy Box themes.

The Toy Box figures are based on the Disney: Infinity game designs, and are re-engineered and articulated. In the game, franchises could interact throughout all of Disney’s properties such as Marvel, Star Wars and Disney/Pixar characters. Fans of that game can now collect highly detailed and articulated figures based on those designs.

Thank you to Disney and The Disney Store for providing their Disney Toy Box Captain Marvel, Wolverine & Spider-Man figures for review.

Availability: October 2019

Disney: Infinity was Disney’s version of LEGO Dimensions, where franchises collide and characters can interact. These figures are loosely based on this game, and have been re-engineered and articulated to resemble the game’s likeness.

These figures are packaged on the standard blister card, and the back shows Captain Marvel, Wolverine and Spider-Man on the back.

Wolverine is offered in his yellow and blue outfit, with an X-Men belt buckle logo, black and silver belt, and a yellow and black mask. This feature also has an action feature that hasn’t really been seen since the early 1990’s when Toy Biz was offering Marvel figures, and that is retractible claws that work by moving the slider on the inside of his forearm up and down. This is a great feature that’s been underused we feel, and definitely has some great play value. The paint applications look really good, but there is some bleeding in-between the stripes where the yellow meets the blue, and there is also some paint chipping when the ball hinge joints on his shoulders are moved.

Wolverine and Captain Marvel are the first figures to come with alternate head sculpts and more accessories than previous seen. Wolverine comes with an unmasked head, a cowboy hat, a sword and a sheath for the sword that can be placed around his torso. The sword is removable and can fit in either of his hands.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, hinged-swivel elbows, ball jointed hips, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.

Captain Marvel comes in her red, blue and gold costume, with the gold deco featuring metallic paint. In some areas on this sample there is some paint bleeding and the gold is running into the red and blue areas, but this is minimal. The deco is veer nicely done and the gold areas have sculpted details such as the star on her chest and the symbol on her belt. Her masked head sculpt includes a red mask with white eyes and black deco around them, with her blonde hair coming up through the center of the top, with nicely done sculpted wavy hair.

Captain Marvel’s unmasked head sculpt has nicely done facial details with great paint applications and her blonde hair. Goose the Cat is included and also given a great sculpt, with a black collar, green eyes, and brown fur. He also has tentacles that plugs into his mouth as seen in the Captain Marvel Movie. Goose the Cat is actually an Alien Species called a Flerken.

Captain Marvel’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, hinged-swivel elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, swivel waist, ball hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel-hinged ankles.

Spider-Man is based on his appearance in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and this new figure by Disney Store is a nice looking figure. He is in his iconic black and red Spidey suit with black stripes, black and white spider logo on his chest, and sculpted webbing in the red parts of the suit. His head sculpt is masked and has white eyes with black trim around them. The figure is also a repaint and retool of the existing mold from the very first wave ,and some of the webbing sculpting on his forearms and feet have been swapped out with smooth parts that are in the black areas of the outfit. Included with Spider-Man is the retractable webbing accessory with a suction cup that can stick to glass or other surfaces.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, hinged elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed hips, hinged knees, and hinged ankles.

Overall, Wolverine, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man are excellent figures with great likenesses to the comics, video game and movies, and Marvel fans will surely love the sculpts and paint applications on these. We are very excited to see Wolverine and Black Widow join the line, and you definitely should be buying these figures for your Marvel collection.
