NECA Toys Candyman 8″ Clothed Figure Review

Candyman Candyman Candyman

NECA Toys newly released Candyman 8″ Clothed Figure is based on the classic 1992 horror film, and is available now. The figure features the likeness of Tony Todd and includes an extra interchangeable head sculpt, and an interchangeable “bee swarm” chest.

This years NECA Toys ToyFair booth is going to be one of the best booths at the show to visit, as their very own Randy has taken to twitter recently and promised fans that it only gets better from here. Most of you probably reading this are well aware that when it comes to quality movie and television toys, NECA is the best option on the market and the next two years we will see many more new releases from not only horror Icons, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will also see many more new releases, including characters never offered in the 7″ scale, or never offered before. We are beyond excited for this years show, so make sure to check back for coverage.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Candyman 8″ Clothed Figure for review.

Availability: January 2020

Candyman comes packaged in a clamshell packaging with nicely done artwork on the card inside, and an image of the figure on the back.

Candyman is one of the most anticipated releases of the horror line to-date, as many fans have been waiting for this line along with others that we’re hoping to see NECA get too, and we’re hoping to see some new licenses announced this weekend. The figure is part of the 8″ scale clothed line and is in fabric clothing that came out exceptionally well. The figure is in a black long jacket with brown fur on the edges, including around his wrists. The jacket cannot be removed, and mostly because of the hook on his right hand, and the way that his right hand is sculpted. The clothing underneath is a white tuxedo shirt, a white tie that is removable, grey and brown checkered pants, black dress shoes, a black belt with a silver belt buckle. The hook is nicely done with red deco over it to indicate blood, and there are even nails sculpted to it to hold it in place.

Candyman features the likeness of Actor Tony Todd, who portrayed the character. The head sculpt gives a great likeness and the facial details and paint applications look great. The second head sculpt shows the bees coming out of his mouth, with closed eyes, and there are even some bees on his face.

The interchangeable “bee swarm” chest is placed over his clothing, and includes a gruesome look at his intestines, skeleton structure, and of course the bees inside that are crawling all over. The paint applications here are amazing, and not only does the intestines are nicely painted, but each bee has a black and yellow stripe on its body, along with grey wings. That’s incredible considering the size of the bee and the amount of them on the chest. This same detail is also seen on the bees on his face and inside his mouth.

In the early 2000’s, a crossover movie between Candyman vs. Leprechaun almost happened, which would have seen both actors return to their iconic roles in a film that probably would have been as Freddy vs. Jason was. Sadly this didn’t happen, but the thought of a crossover like this will hopefully happen someday in comic book form just as Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash did.

Candyman is fully articulated, including a ball jointed head, ball jointed shoulders (limited range of motion due to the jacket), swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel hand/hook, ball jointed torso, swivel waist, ball jointed hips, swivel thighs, hinged knees, and hinged ankles.

Overall, Candyman is an excellent figure and fits in well with other horror icon figures in both the 7″ Ultimate scale, and 8″ Clothed scale lines. Make sure to clear room on your toy shelf, as the NECA collection will only get bigger from here. There are surely lots of more great releases on its way.
