NECA Toys Lootcrate Exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 7″ Scale Spirit Of Splinter Figure Review

“I am proud of you, my sons. Tonight you have learned the final and greatest truth of the ninja…”

Last year, NECA Toys have acquired Loot Crate and since that time, they have started to offer some really great exclusives available only in select crates. One of which was this Spirit of Splinter figure that fans had to pre-order. Originally, they needed 3,000 crates to get funded for this figure, but this surpassed by thousands more, allowing NECA to make this figure and fans that pre-ordered have him hand.

Just this week, NECA Toys announced additional Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles figure Lootcrate exclusives, that are offered in 3 new crates, as well as the announcement that this Spirit of Splinter figure is available once more by clicking HERE! Also available is a Shredder as seen in the Mirage comic books, Bebop and Rocksteady from the classic animated series and comes in a Bunny Suit from the episode “The Turtles and the Hare.” Each crate is priced at $49.95 plus shipping, and the only way to get Bebop is to buy the first 3 crates, as he is an exclusive bonus figure. You can order your crates now by clicking HERE!

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Lootcrate Exclusive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 7″ Scale Splinter Figure for review.

Availability: March 2020

Spirit of Splinter is packaged in a window box with artwork inspired from the film, images of the figure on the sides, and images on the back along with a description.

Spirit of Splinter is only the first Loot Crate exclusive in a limited edition line being offered, and a great way to offering this version to those that are more of a completists compared to the average collector that only wants core characters from the film.

The figure is based on the campfire scene where Splinter returns in Spirit form and is the catalyst needed to get the Turtles back to New York City to face their destiny against Shredder and his Foot Clan army. In the film, Splinter appears as a blue spirit form and the figure does a great job capturing that iconic scene. The figure is repainted with special iridescent paint highlighting the sculpt and gives him more of a realistic look. For Star Wars, the Force Spirit based figures are more translucent plastic, but this release is more shiny and looks more like someone in spirit form. In addition to the blue, some of the corporeal brown from his fur has been carried over, and this works extremely well and helps offset the deco on the robe. The robe is made of fabric with a texture to it, and works well with the sculpt. The shimmer in the robe is unique and has a glittery like appearance.

Splinter is the same figure offered in last years San Diego Comic-Con box set, but without the shackles and chains. The figure keeps his sculpted fur, as well as the bendy wire tail is translucent. Unlike the first two releases, the translucent deco allows you to see all the great work done on the sculpt that just stands out better especially when the figure is under light.

Splinter includes three scene specific accessories, including the campfire that has an LED light-up feature, and Donatello’s roaster marshmallows, including in the bag, and on the stick. The fire itself is nicely done and lights up in blue translucent plastic, with sticks inside the flame and rocks surrounding it. The light-up feature is activated by a switch on the bottom, and it is powered by button cell batteries. This is a great addition to the figure, and Splinter can stand over the fire and it helps light him up as well because of the translucent plastic. The fire actually pulsates and flickers a bit to make the fire looks as though it is really alight, and if it’s dark enough, it can light up the area around it to a small degree.

If you were one of people that backed the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Loot Crate exclusives, you should be getting your Spirit of Splinter figure anytime now. This is such an exciting time for Turtles fans and you can now own these characters, done in the style you want, and it only took 3 decades to achieve this.
