NECA Toys Hellraiser – Ultimate Pinhead Figure Review

NECA Toys highly anticipated release of their Hellraiser – Ultimate Pinhead Figure is one that horror cinematic fans have been waiting for. Pinhead has been offered previously from the company, but now he’s available fully articulated in their Ultimate line-up and joins the growing line of figures. Now that Pinhead is out there, we have to ask about the rest of the Cenobites as well, as we need a complete team.

Pinhead is a completely different type of character that you saw in the 80’s, such as Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger. In the original Hellraiser movie, Pinhead wasn’t even the primary villain, and instead human characters Frank and Julia are the true monsters. Pinhead and Cenobites are the inevitable evil when you solve the puzzle box and summon them, you get what you asked for. They are beyond the viewpoints of good and evil, no feelings, no emotions. They have one job, to punish those that open the puzzle box and summon them.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Hellraiser – Ultimate Pinhead Figure for review.

Availability: February 2020

Pinhead is packaged in a window box with artwork inspired from the Hellraiser film on the front and sides. On the back are images of the figure, and the front is an open flap to reveal the figure inside in a plastic tray, with an image of the figure on the left.

Pinhead comes in his iconic black leather outfit and the amount of sculpted detail on his torso, arms, and legs gives him a great likeness to the film. The torso includes the stitches on his chest with the right amount of blood on it, and there is even a metallic purple wash over it that you almost might miss, which also appears on the front of his legs. There is a piece of black string that connects to both sides of torso, and is looped through his belly button. His hips have fabric cloth that is sculpted to the plastic, which allows a full range of motion of his hips and legs. The skirt also has a wire at the bottom to keep it close to the feet.

Pinhead comes with two distinct head sculpts with a closed and an open mouth, with both featuring a white and blue skin tone, black eyes with a blue wash around them, and pins sticking out of his head. The removal of his head is easier than we thought, as the area around his ears and the back of his head have areas that don’t have the pins, and you need to grip that to remove and insert the new head into the body. The pins are made of a soft plastic, which means that won’t break immediately if you press on them, but keep in mind these are still fragile and will break if a sufficient amount of force is applied.

Pinhead also comes with two puzzle boxes, one in a cubed shape, and the other in a puzzled solved position that summons Pinhead and the other Cenobites. The Puzzle boxes look great, and include some great sculpt detail and paint applications. He also includes a hook, a blade and a saw, all with blood stain on them, and three sets of interchangeable hand sculpts. These unique hands are used to hold the puzzle boxes and other accessories.

Pinhead is given the Ultimate treatment, and comes with today’s modern articulation that fans have come to expect. He includes a ball jointed head on a pin, ball hinged shoulders, double-jointed elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles.

Overall, Pinhead is an excellent figure and has been worth the wait since NECA started offering the Ultimate line of horror characters. The figure looks great, with all that great sculpted detail and accessories, this is one you cannot miss out on. Make sure to grab him now at the stores listed below.
