The Disney Store is bringing some pixie dust to their Disney Toy Box line with the new releases of Peter Pan and Captain Hook. These figures join Goofy and Donald Duck and Mike Wazowski and Randall from Monsters Inc. Interestingly enough, Peter Pan was supposed to be part of the Disney Infinity game but was scrapped when the project was cancelled. If you’ve watched any Peter Pan movie, you know that he has the ability to fly, a good swordsman, and has the ability to fool Captain Hook and the other pirates with his voice. He likely would have had those abilities in the game had it moved forward. Captain Hook’s ship, The Jolly Roger, did make appearances in the Disney Infinity 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0. Captain Hook’s costume was seen in Disney Infinity 1.0, but the character himself was not included in the game.
Availability: May 2020
Peter Pan and Captain Hook are packaged in the standard Toy Box blister card, including an image of him on the side, and images of him and other figures that are also available. Peter Pan is #15 and Captain Hook is #16 in the Disney Toy Box line.
Disney Infinity was Disney’s version of LEGO Dimensions, where franchises collide and characters can interact. These figures are loosely based on this game, and have been re-engineered and articulated to resemble the game’s likeness.
Peter Pan and Captain Hook maintain their classic animated movie colors while getting the Toy Box figure style treatment. Peter Pan is in his classic light green shirt, and green tights, brown shoes, and a green hat with a red feather. His head sculpt includes some nicely done facial details that are brought out by the paint applications to his eyes, sculpted and painted black eye brows, and mouth. His ears are also pointy as depicted in the classic film. Included with Peter is a knife that fits inside the sheath on his hip, and a panpipe.
Captain Hook is really the gem of the new wave and we’re going to call him out of 2020’s most memorable action figures. Who wouldn’t love a Pirate Captain in 5″ figure scale? Captain Hook comes in his classic Pirate outfit, with a red coat with gold trim, a white scarf, dark red tights, white and black boots with gold trim, gold buttons on the coat, a dark red strap across his body that is connected to the sheath for his sword. His head sculpt has some great sculpted features and long black hair, a black mustache, black eye bros, a really big nose, mouth and painted eyes. His plumped Pirate hat has some really nice details as well and snaps onto the top of his head. The hat however has trouble staying on if the figure is moved and tends to fall over easily. The sword is also square shaped as opposed to the blade being thin and pointy to meet safety standards. He also has a left hook that replaced his hand, which can swivel around. The likeness is really uncanny and they just nailed it with Hook.
Overall, The Disney Toy Box line continues to grow and Peter Pan and Captain Hook are two great additions to the line. Captain Hook is by far a personal choice over the two as he just captures the look of a Pirate Captain. These are definitely worth adding to your Toy Box collection, Disney collection or just any toy collection that you may have. Make sure to grab them now while they’re available.
