This years San Diego Comic-Con would have seen the Turtles as you never saw them before, all based on on the live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Coming Out Of Their Shells Tour from 1990. In this memorable tour, and thanks to the helps from fans and April O’Neil, the Ninja Turtles have to stop Shredder and Baxter Stockman from destroying all of the music in the world.
This one of a kind box set will take you back to 1990 at the pinnacle of the turtles fandom where Leo, Donnie, Raph, and Mikey traded in their martial arts weapons for instruments and became rock stars. All 4 turtles are dressed in real fabric, band themed apparel and come with a slew of new accessories including a saxophone, keyboard, guitar, and a one string bass! Also included are mask accessories, a pizza, and 4 sets of interchangeable hands.

The set comes in a rectangular size packaging with a slip cover that features some great artwork, including artwork of the turtles on the front and sizes, and a mask cut out of Raphael on the back along with with a list of songs, credits of the great people at NECA that put this together, and a list of what’s in the box. Once the slip cover is removed, the box resembles a foot locker with metal sides and a lock. Inside that, the turtles are packaged in a plastic tray along with their accessories, and the backdrop features a stage with lights as they were seen on in their Musical Mutagen Tour.
Thirty years has passed since this tour took place, and we are getting some great accurate figures here that would have been sold at San Diego Comic-Con had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic. For many, Turtles toys offered in recent years has become a staple of toy collecting for them, especially with what NECA has been offering lately. This is the first-time that they are offering something much more obscure than you would normally see, such as the Arcade game, animated series and films. When you can get something special in a line like this, you are definitely going to attract the attention of fans, especially the most die-hard of collectors and you are sure to attract the attention of many other fans.
The turtles themselves share parts of the existing movie figures such as the arms, legs, torso and shell, and are given all the new parts shown to match their likeness from the Musical Mutagen Tour. The jackets on the figures are made of real fabric, with badges, glitter, their names on their backs in their specific color, and a sticker of the poster of the tour on the back. Each turtle also has their own special pattern and unique colors, including elbow and knee pads, wrist bands and socks.
Aside from the new parts on this sculpts, their musical instruments replace their iconic weapons and are each equally impressive. Leonardo comes with his guitar and an interchangeable eye piece, Raphael comes with a guitar and his saxophone that he used on stage, Michelangelo comes with a string bass and a pizza slice, and Donatello comes with a keyboard. There are also eye pieces for Michelangelo and Leonardo as shown, and can be used for any of the turtles as shown in the video. Michelangelo also comes with a pizza slice, and all of the turtles come with interchangeable hands (in this set Donatello’s was missing).
Their new head sculpts are excellent, and are bigger than the previous versions, and include hinge jaws that allow you to open and close their mouths. The interchangeable eye pieces that can fit in any of the eyes in the bandana’s, and the amount of detail given to the heads such as the likeness and realistic design are astonishing.
Overall, the Turtles are going to be this years hottest NECA SDCC exclusives for sure, and rightly so as they are such great looking figures. NECA has once again nailed these and you can bet these are a new centerpiece of the NECA Turtles collection. If you have the chance, make sure to pick these up on July 23rd, as specified below.
