This years Alien exclusive figure that would have been sold at San Diego Comic-Con is none other than the Big Chap himself, inspired from the classic 1979 Alien movie and has a glow in the dark feature. The Big Chap is a repaint of their previously offered Big Chap Alien sculpt and comes with an Alien Egg, a Facehugger, and a Chestburster, which also glows in the dark. Big Chap is packaged in a window box packaging with artwork inspired from the film on the front, sides, images of the Alien figure and accessories as well as a description on the back. The opening flap has a nice action shot of Big Chap, and to the right he is stored in a plastic tray along with his accessories. The packaging also has a texture detail on the front with the Alien egg and around it, which is different than the earlier release of the Big Chap Alien figure, as well as a Convention Exclusive sticker.
The Big Chap Alien Xenomorph is in fluorescent green and and given a Glow in the Dark feature that will light up your figure display. The figure maintains all of the great attention to detail as previous figures, including a brand new figure sculpt with additional articulation. The sculpt features the same great details including the ribs on his chest, as well as the high-end quality textures and all of the tiny details that NECA offers with all of their Alien Xenomorph figures. There is a lot of detail going into the sculpt and the more you look at it, the more you’re going to love it. In addition to that, he also has the tongue that pops out, a hinged jaw, a clear done on top of his head that is not removable, and a bendable tail.
The new deco is quite special for the figure as he is not only cast in green plastic but there is also a wash on it in some of the more details parts of the sculpt. The glow in the dark feature gives the figure the ability to shine bright.
Big Chap’s articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball hinged shoulders, double jointed elbows, swivel-hinged wrists, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, hinged and rocker ankles, and hinged toes. He also has a hinged jaw, a bendable tail, and a tongue that pops out. Some key changes to articulation includes changes to the knee and elbows, the bicep swivel has been removed, knee joints enlarged, and the ankles allow more poseability.
The egg and base also have the glow in the dark feature, and have special grooves that line up so it stays connected. The base has those tentacles as seen in the movie around the egg. The egg itself has no bottom and is meant to be placed on the base. The egg can hold a Facehugger, that is also included, and this set also comes with a Chestburster, and these accessories can also glow in the dark.
Overall, the Ultimate Big Chap Alien SDCC Exclusive Figure, egg, Facehugger and Chestburster figures are all great looking figures and accessories and this is a great convention set. Big Chap has always been one of the more popular Alien figures that NECA has put out, and you will surely love the this addition to the line.
