April O’Neil and the Bashed Foot Soldier are packaged in the standard window box packaging of the line, with nicely done artwork that’s inspired from the series, including images of the figures on the sides, images of the figures and a bio on the back.
April O’Neil is sculpted and painted in her yellow outfit, with a different shade of yellow on the front and back, a white belt, white shoes, a white watch, and black lines painted in-between grooves and various other places throughout the sculpt. This figure is given a new sculpt to capture her animated likeness, and her outfit also includes pockets, and accessories sculpted to her. Her head sculpt came out great and you clearly see the likeness. Everything aspect about the figure is perfect, from the red hair and clothing.
April O’Neil includes her channel 6 microphone, two sets of interchangeable hands, a tape recorder with a soft plastic strap and cord with a microphone attached, a camera with a hinged pistol grip handle with nicely done paint applications and crisp lines. She also has her Turtlecom that opens up, and given a sculpt that’s similar to a turtle shell. This also has a interior screen and keyboard, but the screen is blue and unfortunately no turtle is on the other end of it.
The Bashed Foot Soldier uses many parts of the existing Foot Soldier sculpt that has been offered, with a newly tooled torso with exposed wiring and circuits. The new torso is exceptional, as is the rest of the sculpt, but it’s great to have a damaged Foot Soldier in this line. The Bashed Foot Soldier has two shades of purple, which are actually lighter than the previous offerings, and is also painted in black, light grey, with a yellow foot symbol on his forehead, and yellow eyes.
Included with the Bashed Foot Soldier are four sets of interchangeable hands (grip, fist, open hand and karate chop), a communicator with Bebop on the screen, two throwing stars, the same blaster that he previously came with, and a newly tooled blaster that has some retro 50’s sci-fi vibe to it. The sculpt and deco on the accessories are also excellent as NECA has captured this perfectly.
Also included with this set is the Pizza Monster baby from the episode “The Case of the Killer Pizzas”, and the Maltese Hamster statue from “The Maltese Hamster.” Both of these are mini-figures and have no articulation.
Overall, April O’Neil and the Bashed Foot Soldier are excellent figures with great sculpts, deco and superior quality. These are worthy of your collection, and it’s also important to note that we here at ToyHypeUSA have been waiting for an April O’Neil figure to be done like this for over 30 years. It’s been a long wait, but she’s finally arrived!
