Jakks Pacific Sonic The Hedgehog 4″ Articulated Figures Wave 1 Review

Jakks Pacific are offering some new articulated figures that continues their Sonic the Hedgehog offerings, and these figures each come with accessories. You would probably recall that Jakks kicked off this line with 4″ bendable figures, and offered three wave of that with some pretty solid looking figures. These are given several points of articulation, and this wave includes Sonic, Tails, Shadow and Dr. Eggman. Additional offerings include 2 1/2″ figures that are also featured here.

Thank you to Jakks Pacific for providing these Sonic the Hedgehog figures for review.

Availability: September 2020

Each 4″ figure is packaged on a standard blister card, with game inspired artwork on the front, a look at the articulation and figure images on the back. The 2.5″ figures of Knuckles and Dr. Eggman are also shown, and the packaging is scaled down to reflect their size as well.

Sonic includes a great figure sculpt and painted with blue skin, beige chest, arms, face and ears, white gloves, red, white and yellow shoes. Just like the rest of the figures in this wave, these are very similar to their bendable counterparts released last year, but now are given articulation, which we go into detail in the video above.

Sonic’s articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel wrists, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and swivel ankles.

Tails is shorter than the bendable figure as we featured this in the video and photogallery below, and is actually a bit more accurate in scale to the other figures. He is also painted in a brighter shade of yellow compared to the bendable figure, with yellow skin, a white chest and facial hair, as well as white on his tail and ears. His gloves are painted in white with a black stripe, and his shoes are white and red. His articulation is the same as Sonic’s, with the added swivel tail.

Shadow also looks great and is painted mostly in black skin, with a white hairy chest ,white eyes, a beige face and inside the ears, and red stripes on each of the hairs on back of his head. His gloves and shoes are painted white with metallic gold and red. Several shades of the color has changed from his bendable release, such as the gold and red tones (was yellow and red before). His articulation is also the same as Sonic’s, which works great.

Dr. Eggman includes an excellent likeness and sculpt capturing the character. He is painted in his red, black, yellow and white outfit, with goggles on top of his head, and a large mustache going out on the sides of his face. He is also given the most articulation out of this wave, including a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, ball jointed wrists, swivel-hinged hips, swivel-hinged knees, and ball jointed ankles.

Each figure also includes game specific accessories, as shown above.

Also shown are 2.5″ figures of Knuckles and Dr. Eggman. These have less articulation but have the same great likenesses. Both are painted the same as the 4″ figures. Knuckles articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, and swivel-hinged hips. Dr. Eggman’s articulation includes a swivel head, swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel-hinged elbows, and swivel-hinged hips.

Overall, these Sonic the Hedgehog figures came out great and Jakks team of designers have done an impressive job on these. The quality and paint applications on these far exceeds expectations, and these are surely going to be a hit with fans. Make sure to pick these up now.
