NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon Series Traag & Granitor Figures Review

NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon Series line has expanded and is gaining tremendous momentum in the community at the moment. The line has instantly become a fan-favorite and now we’re seeing such an expansion of characters, including some that you never see, such as these memorable Rock Soliders from the classic cartoon. Traag and Granitor have jointed the line and for the first-time, these are offered as show-accurate figures. Traag and Granitor are from  Dimension X, a alternate dimension or galaxy in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon where Krang rules with his army of Rock Soldiers. Each episode that these characters appeared in are some of the more memorable one’s from the series, including the Neutrinos, which was another race that were allies of the Turtles, and enemies of Krang and the Rock Soldiers. The Neutrinos could very well get the figure treatment especially now that we have Traag and Granitor in the line. It seems no character(s) are off limits and NECA could do memorable or even obscure characters if the demand is there, which at this point it’s safe to say demand for these are incredibly high.

These are available now at Target Stores and should be coming soon to the NECA Store.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon Series Traag and Granitor Figures for review.

Traag and Granitor are a milestone for NECA as they expand their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles offerings based on the classic cartoon series that we all know and love. Each of these figures are depicted as they appeared on the show, with an oversized body type, bigger and bulkier than most of the other characters on that show. The sculpts do a fantastic job capturing this iconic look and keep true to the source material.

Traag, or General Traag as he’s referred too in the series is the leader of the Rock Soldiers and only answers to Krang. Granitor is a Sergeant and is the second in command. Both figures share some of the same parts and given some new parts that are unique to the character. They share some of the torso, legs, belts, and boots with cleats. There is some retooling in the torso as well, such as the upper parts around the head and shoulders, and each character has their unique badge indicating their rank in the Rock Soldier army. The bulkiness of the sculpts don’t get in the way of the articulation, which is a such a great thing, and they are given double-jointed elbows, knee articulation, ball jointed torso’s, ball jointed shoulders, ball jointed heads, hinged and swivel wrists and feet.

Their head sculpts have such a great likeness to them, especially the attention to detail on the facial details of Granitor’s nose and eyes, Taarg’s eyes, nose and mouth, and both of their helmets. Each figure is also painted in their memorable iconic colors, with Taarg’s deco in a light brown with an even lighter deco, and Granitor is given a light grey and a lighter grey as their primary colors. The bandages are also painted in different colors, as well as their helmets, belts and boots. The only common color they share is the blasters that fit into their holders and hands. The blasters fit best in their hands by first heating it with a hair dryer, and then inserting it in otherwise you might have paint rubbing off.

Both Traag and Granitor are perfectly to scale with other figures in this line, including how they look compared to April O’Neil, Krang in his bubble walker, Shredder, Rockstead, Bebop, Casey Jones and the Turtles.

Traag and Granitor come with some accessories, including a communicator device with Krang’s face, a can of mutagen, and three Wanted posters/screens showing each of the Neutrinos – Dask, Kala, and Zak with their names on the bottom and they are clearly shown as fugitives by the Rock Soldiers.

Overall, NECA has done a fantastic job on these figures and these have been well worth the 30 year wait, and the three year wait since they were first shown back at San Diego Comic-Con 2017. The attention to detail given to the sculpts and character likenesses are perfect representations to what they looked like in the cartoon, and every aspect about these came out great. These Rock Soldiers make great additions to the line and for the first-time since Playmates Toys offered their vintage line, we finally have a Traag figure, but this time he’s show accurate and depicted as he should be. Both Traag and Granitor are great figures and worthy to add to your collection, so make sure to pick these up while you can. Hopefully the Neutrinos aren’t far behind!
