NECA Toys Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze Super Shredder Deluxe 7″ Scale Figure Review

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze was the 1991 sequel and continued where the first movie ends, with Shredder returning as he was thought to have been killed. In this film, Shredder uses mutagen on himself while fighting the turtles to become more of a monster than human. Unfortunately, this leads to his own downfall as he was too strong for his own good, and collapses a dock with him on it. NECA continues their popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie line-up with the Super Shredder, and he is exclusive to Wal-Mart and the NECA Store this year. The Super Shredder is one of the most memorable versions of him from the film, and we’ve seen the character return in series that followed. Super Shredder was portrayed by the WWE Legends Kevin Nash.

Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze Super Shredder Deluxe 7″ Scale Figure for review.

Availability: August 2020

Super Shredder is packaged in a large window box with an opening flap, with movie inspired artwork on the front, images of him on the sides and artwork, and images of the figure on the back along with a description. Super Shredder is in a plastic tray along with his accessories, and the opening flap has an image of the figure.

Super Shredder is part of the deluxe line, and is an oversized figure and includes a big bulky and muscular figure sculpt, and stands at 9.5″ tall making him the tallest figure in the line at the moment. Super Shredder’s sculpt has one of the most impressive designs in the line, with all those blades and attention to detail on the head sculpt. This larger size allows these details to stand out more than on a smaller figure, and that is defiantly a plus. He head is sculpted with some great attention to detail, including scars on the face, eyes looking through the mask, added ridges and blades on the helmet. The helmet also includes a face shield that is nicely done with a wash that is as detailed as the rest of the armor, which is painted to make it look worn. There are some additional details and textures here as well.

The blades on his armor are also longer than the previous figure, which we also saw in the film, are are made of a softer plastic, which limits the risk of breakage as you are moving the joints and swapping out the hands. The blades can be found on the shoulders, shin guards, and wrist guard.

The outfit is also nicely detailed and mostly painted in a dark grey, purple, metallic silver, and black. The black and light grey deco defines his muscular body in the purple suit. The cape is made of fabric, and there is a nice shiny finish to it on the back.

Super Shredder includes 7 interchangeable hand sculpts (closed fisted, open grip, open grip for the canister, and open hands), a spear, and a canister of TGRI mutagen. The spear can be held in the open grip hands, there is a hand offered just for the canister, and the open hands are best to grab a turtle.

Even though Super Shredder had a brief appearance towards the end of the film before meeting his demise, it’s a memorable one. NECA has done an incredible job on this figure and he far exceeds expectations anyone might have had when seeing images of him online. The attention to detail, accessories and overall great likeness is incredible. If you can find him, he’s definitely worth adding to your collection.
