The Pirates of Barracuda Bay is packaged in a retro LEGO packaging with beautiful artwork of the set, includes images of the front, sides and back. Inside the box are 15 bags (most have doubles) of LEGO bricks to put this set together, along with a large instruction book with additional information about the set, including the experts that submitted this to LEGO for consideration to make this, and more.
The Pirates of Barracuda Bay is the first Pirate Island offered, and features a boardwalk with several staircases that are used to enter the shipwrecked Pirate ship. The island has accessories, animals and fish around it, including a pig, shark. 2 parrots, 3 crabs, 2 frogs and 2 skeleton figures all placed around it. The Island also has a hidden treasure chest at the center, and can be found by splitting the Island in half, and pulling it out from the side.
The Barracuda Pirate Ship is separated by three different segments on the island, with plants growing around it as it’s no longer in operation in this form. The interior details of it are easier to access in this form as well, including the kitchen, sleeping quarters, Jose’s Inn and more. Some additional parts are added to the Barracuda when it’s crashed on the island, including a boarding up back window, entrance ways and the sails are rolled up. The Captain’s room can also be accessed in various ways as the top floor is removable above it, so it doesn’t really matter how you post it to access that. The bar in the Inn can also be accessed by removing the floor above it.
The Pirate mini-figures can be placed around the boardwalk, Pirate ship, raft or anywhere else you’d like in this form, and there is a lot of options to display these figures with all of the features given here.
The Barracuda Pirate Ship is removable from the island, and all three of the segments can be put together. In the video, I demonstrated and gave you a look at the instructions that tells you what to remove from the ship wreck, and what to add once it’s all put back together. All the plants growing on the ship are removed, as is the wheel hanging on the back, the rolled up sails, the jail cell, and various other parts. What is added are new sails that are ready to take on the sea, including reusing the rolled up sails, and placing several of the accessories from the island to the ship. The sails look great fully extended, as this ship looks to have always meant to sail.
Once the ship is placed together, which snaps using the pegs and ball joints at the ends, you’re ready to sail. The Barracuda’s wheel attaches to the ship in this form as well, which was originally hanging down in the back of it on the island. The wheel turns, and the anchor can also be raised or lifted. It also includes 3 cannons, all of the loose accessories from the island can also be placed on it, and lots of places to place the figures. In this form, you do loose some of the interior area’s, but you still have access to the Captain’s quarters and the bar.
The Pirate mini-figures are all great additions to this set. including the classic Captain Redbeard and 7 additional characters that you’re going to love. Some may be familiar, while others appear to be new, so it’s a great set and mix of characters.
Overall, the Pirates of Barracuda Bay is one of the most detailed and impressive looking LEGO Pirates sets ever offered, and this is surely something for the most passionate of classic LEGO fans. If you owned the classic LEGO Pirates sets, and still do, you definitely should consider picking this up especially for the holidays for yourself. If you never owned a LEGO Pirates set, this is a great jumping on set and makes a great addition to your collection.
