Super Mario continues to be a fan-favorite brand and this is a property we are very passionate about. The golden age of video games introduced Super Mario to the world in Nintendo of the 1980’s, and Super Nintendo in the early 1990’s. This is how several generations spent their time, having Mario and/or Luigi go through each level to save the Princess from the evil Bowser. As someone growing up the 1980’s and 1990’s, this was the game to play, and very few games came close to the fun and joy this one had offered.

Mario comes with open hands as opposed to the closed fisted hands from series 18, and this is how Jakks has been refreshing characters like Mario and Luigi, by offering different hand sculpts and sometimes other changes to the figure to keep these characters fresh on toy shelves. As someone that spent many hours playing the Super Mario game, it’s great to have multiple variations of Mario, Luigi and other characters in these outfits and in their iconic colors, which remain timeless. Mario comes in his plumbers outfit with blue overalls and yellow buttons, white gloves, brown shoes, and a red cap. There is also the first letter of their name on his cap, with white deco in a circle around it. His head sculpt includes the black mustache, brown hair, and blue eyes. The eyes are also a bit different than what has come before, and he has been given much more defining eye deco that stands out even better.

Mario comes with a 1Up green mushroom, which you know in the game gives you another life. The articulation on the figures remains standard compared to the previous releases.

Fire Luigi is a repaint of the standard Luigi figure, and comes in his green overalls, yellow bottoms, a white shirt, white gloves with closed fisted wrists, brown shoes, a white cap with the letter L on top. His facial details came out great and he has a good likeness to the game. This includes the mustache, blue eyes, an open mouth and brown sculpted hair. Fire Luigi comes with a fire plant, and the articulation is the same as previously offered.

Black Yoshi is a variant of Green Yoshi, as the characters comes in a variety of colors in the game. The figure is painted in black and white, with black eye balls, a red tongue, and some yellow on the bottom of his shoes. In the game, Black Yoshi can eat other things that the rest can’t, such as Black Shy Guys, and whenever the Smile Meter is full, his eggs explode in gigantic explosions, destroying more than one enemy at a time.

Included with Black Yoshi is an egg.

Shy Guy comes in his red jacket, with a brown belt, blue pants and light brown shoes, and there is a white mask over his face with eyes that are blacked out along with a tiny mouth. The mask has a light brown strap that goes all the way around the head, and there is a propeller that plugs into the top of the head. Shy Guy’s can be easily defeated, by being picked up and thrown against another enemy or into a nearby pit. They can also be defeated by having an object thrown at them.

Sky Guy has some minimal articulation, such as swivel arms and legs. The legs are limited due to the shirt, as that blocks the range of motion.

Lemmy is the real gem in this wave, and is one of the seven Koopalings adopted by Bowser. Lemmy has the same boys style as other Koomp’s, with his own unique head sculpt with hair that has various colors, on top. He also has black bracelets on his wrists, and his shell is brown, with spikes that are yellow and white. His facial details look great, including the green skin, bit white eyes with black pupils, and there is even orange stripes on the side of the head. Included with Lemmy is a magic wand that also came with other Koopalings minions of Bowser.

Overall, Jakks Pacific is offering another great line-up of figures that will surely make fans happy. Lemmy will obviously be the figure of choice for this wave given his stance in the game and how well the likeness translates into plastic. Super Mario fans and collectors will definitely enjoy these figures, which are available now.
