For Freaky Friday, we’re taking a look at NECA’s newly released Toony Terrors The Shining – Grady Twins Figures, which is an animated type likeness to these iconic horror characters that is meant as a fun take on these. These figures are based on the creepy twins found in the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick’s classic film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Shining. The figures will initially be exclusive to Wal-Mart Stores, and will then see a wider general release in the coming months.
Thank you to NECA Toys for providing their Toony Terrors The Shining – Grady Twins Figures for review.
Availability: March 2021
The Toony Terrors figures are packaged on a blister card packaging with a bonus cutout backdrop that are based on their film. Just like the figures, the backdrops are also animated inspired and can be used for display and as a diorama for the figures.
The Grady Twins joins NECA’s popular Toony Terrors line, which are meant to look like they’re from an animated series as opposed to a live-action horror film. The Twins each are given unique sculpts, but look almost exactly the same, from the likenesses to the dress. Each of the head sculpts are unique and you have to look closer to them as they look the same from further away. The facial details look great, and each have long brown hair that also has a unique sculpt, but also looks similar. There is also a white clip on the left sides of their heads.
The dresses also look the same but are each a unique tool. The bow hangs further down on one than the other, and the sculpting on the shoulders is another way to see that each of these are different. One also stands a bit taller than the other, and you can see that difference in the height of their legs. The dresses are in a light blue, white, and a pink bow, with white stockings and black dress shoes.
On the bottom of their shoes, are holes for their feet to be plugged into the included base. This base has two pegs, one for each of the Twin, and they stand close together and it looks like they are holding hands. The articulation is minimal, including ball jointed heads, swivel shoulders, and a swivel hip.
Overall, this offering of Toony Terrors is a great addition to the line, each given great attention to detail, likenesses and deco. The Toony Terrors line is a fun take on these iconic horror characters, and fans will surely enjoy the more friendly looking depiction of the characters.
