Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla vs King Kong 2021 Figures Review

Bandai Tamashii Nations are offering new figures based on the 2021 Godzilla vs King Kong film, which is part of the S.H. MonsterArts line. The film is a sequel to Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Kong: Skull Island (2017), and has these two iconic monsters battle it out. In the film, King Kong clashes with Godzilla as the humans bring the ape into the Hollow Earth to retrieve a power source to use as a weapon to stop Godzilla’s rampages through cities.

This new Godzilla figure is given a completely new design, and stands about 6.3″ tall. Godzilla features metallic paint to resemble his Atomic Breath charging. The figure includes two sets of interchangeable hands. The Kong Figure stands at 5.7″ tall. It includes two interchangeable portraits, two sets of hands, and an axe that looks to be made from one of Godzilla’s fins.

Thank you to Bluefin for providing the S.H. MonsterArts Godzilla vs King Kong 2021 Figures for review

Availability: June/July 2021

Godzilla and King Kong are packaged in window boxes, with images of the figures on the front, along with the films logo, as well as on the sides and back. Also on the back is a look at the figures inside, as the window is on the left.

King Kong and Godzilla are both given sculpted textures throughout their bodies to showcase the fur and skin respectively, as seen in the film. Godzilla’s fin’s are painted in a metallic blue deco, as well as the inside of his mouth as he can breathe blue fire. The fins are larger on his back, and get smaller as it goes down the tip of his tail. The fins are also given black lines, while the metallic blue gives it a nice shine. The head sculpt is one of the smallest parts of the body, and has some nice sculpted details, including a tongue and teeth. The eyes are also given a metallic blue deco, which also make it stand out. The figure is given an extra set of interchangeable hands, with finger nails that are pointy, as well as his toe nails.

He is given a vast amount of articulation that is common for the S.H. Figuarts/MonsterArts line. He includes a hinged haw, ball jointed head, ball jointed neck, ball hinged shoulders, ball hinged elbows, swivel forearms, ball jointed wrists, ball jointed chest, ball jointed torso, ball jointed hips, double-hinged knees, ball jointed ankles, and at least 17 ball joints in the tail.

King Kong is also given a great sculpt, with the sculpted fur as mentioned above, but also given some more smooth areas showcasing his skin, such as on his chest, stomach, palms of his hands, feet and parts of his face. The chest has some scars and scratches from his fights back on the Jungle. The sculpt is packed with sculpted details depicting the likeness of his legendary Ape, including fingers, toes, and a head sculpt with a great likeness of the character. The figure comes with two head sculpts, with one an open mouth with fangs and teeth, and tongue. The eyes and ears are also sculpted and given a great likeness, and fit in with the scale of the head.

King Kong also includes 8 hand sculpts, and an axe accessory he can use as a weapon. The axe looks to have one of Godzilla’s fins attached to a stick to use as a weapon, and is attached to a bone. This can be held in one or two of the open hand sculpts as shown.

His articulation includes a ball jointed head, ball jointed neck, ball jointed chest and torso, ball jointed shoulders, ball jointed biceps, double hinged elbows, ball jointed wrists, ball jointed hips, ball jointed thighs, ball jointed and double-hinged knees, ball jointed ankles, swivel feet, and hinged toes.

The figures both work great with each other and they did a nice job capturing the scale. One thing you may notice is that these are shorter compared to other King Kong and Godzilla figures out on the market from other companies, but they have more articulation, and King Kong has more accessories than what’s come before.

Overall, these are excellent figures that you surely want to add to your collection. The amount of attention to detail, likenesses and over quality fits in well with the S.H. Figuarts MonsterArt quality that fans are used too. Make sure to pre-order and order now while these are still available! You can order at the stores listed below:
